Auto trans over filled with oil

Postby thegreatestben » Sat Jun 16, 2007 7:38 pm

I checked the oil level in my transmission of my Mark II (1jzge auto) and whoever filled it put way too much oil in. I've been driving it around and its seems ok, just had a leak. Which is probably it pissing out the breather.

Question is should I not be driving around like this. Oil is very clean/brand new looking. It came up well over the full mark on the dipstick.

Yeah, often manufactors guild lines to check the ATF would be:

have the car at operating temp
leave the car running
cycle through all the gears (1,2,D etc to P)
check the atf dipping the dipstick quickly, but as far as it will go (to avoid splashes giving a false reading)

along those lines, but not sure if it would apply to your car.

Car had been run and was warm. Will double double check but I'm talking like 5 times over full here. Quite far up to have me unsure about it. Never had auto before but doesnt seem right.

Thanks for suggestions so far

Perhaps go into your local garage to make sure you are checking correctly. if it is actually 5X more than it should have you will do damage...and autos cost more $$ to fix.

Yeah all the auto specialists I talked to said it had to be running when you check it, otherwise it looks like its mega overfull.
