replacing engine driven fan with electric q's

have replaced radiator and engine driven fan, currently the electric fan is wired up to a switch but i want it to run on its own when needed.

because the original rwd thermostat housing doesnt have a temp sensor i sourced one from the same engine in fwd which does have the sensor.

The plan,

sadly the fwd housing does not face the correct way to simply swap with the rwd one so i was going to cut the thermostat housing from it and install the small straight section with sensor into the hose close to the thermostat.

then was thinking i can wire the sensor, fan, power and earth to a relay which should then switch the fan on when it reaches the correct temp.

sounds good in theory but is this correct or would it work ?

that sounds roughly how mine is wired up works fine.
i took the drain-plug out of the bottom of my radiator, got a fitting braized on so I can bolt the temp sensor straight to the radiator. nice and tidy, and if i ever need to drain the radiator I just take the sensor out. easy.

sensor doesnt need an earth itself does it ?

just thought as now would be located in the hose rather than attached to the block itself.

hmmm ye temp sensor only has one pin and one wire,
unless i get another sensor that uses the same temp to work switch and has two wires coming from it how can i earth it ?

also anyone know what temp is suppose to kick the fan off ?

i originally had the sensor bolted to a metal pipe, stuck in between two rubber hoses (so not earthing out at all) so I got a two-pin sensor. so basically the - of the fan was earthed out, but had the sensor in the middle of the wire which switched the earth on and off.

edit - from memory my switch works at around 70 - 80 degrees.
if you go to repco they've got a book with about 400 switches in it, all different plugs, temps etc etc. they aren't that expensive either so thats always an option fi you need a different switch to what you arleady ahve.

ye thats the same as what i have done, i know repco etc have heaps so as long as it has two wires is the same temp and same thread should be sweet.

dont think there is a temp or anything written or stamped on the switch itself which was why i asked so i dont buy a switch that runs at wrong temp.

anyone know what temp normally kicks the fan off on a 16v 4age ?

the sensour is opens at 97-102`C on an AE92 if that helps

it will kick in at say 102 and out 95, if that helps.

no thats not quite correct it will kick in between 97 & 105`c & will turn off when a tepm lower that thse are reached

95-105 will be fine im just saying that they kick in between that temp & out at the same point not what was sed above

gepsk8 read what i say when a switch is 97-105 it means at a point in between thoes temps it will kick in there not all exactly the same it depends on make voltage exact metrals used etc

but that temp is the same for both on & off under that temp it will be open & above it will be closed

NO fans come on at 105 and above and cut out at 95. fans stop
