removing ae101 rear engine mount

Postby Mike- » Sat Jun 30, 2007 11:46 am

hey all, ive had a decent search for this but couldnt find anything,

im in the process of changing the front and rear engine mounts in a ae101 gt-z, the front was a piece of piss but the rear is causing some trouble, theres a slightly too small space to raise the mount so the 3 bolts on the bottom can clear the chassis where they bolt in, there is a shaft running between two suspension arms which the mount hits when i try to remove it,
so whats the best way to get around this. Unbolt the shaft? (looks pretty tricky) or some special trick i dont know about yet

The three bolts that bolt through the mount and onto the chassis come out.

Undo one nut at a time, just to the end of the bolt, but still on the bolt. Hit it with a hammer  . Its probably going to be in there tight, so might take some effort. Repeat for the other 2 bolts. To remove the last one you might have to tighten one of the ones you have allready knocked out, but finger tight will do, just to keep the mount from bouncing up.

Hope this helps :D

sounds like your knocking the splined bolt out of the mount rollaboy?
Guess that is a way, I haven't touched them with out having the cross member off.

Yep thats what I mean. It is a lot easier if you take the cross-member off, but not everyone has axle stands, so have to jack it up on the crossmember...

You're a $&#$% idiot if you're undoing engine mounts with the car supported just on a jack 8O

X100 if you hitting things with a hammer...

Couple of mounts I've done had a rubber damper thing on the top, i bashed that off with a long bar, then i could get the mount out easy :)

Dunno what the rubber bit did, it was like a solid block of rubber that sat onto of the metal casing of the mount. Nothing touched it at all. *shrugs*

weird thing is... that is a chunk of steel.... glued onto the mount with rubber, found out when I set one on fire to burn the rubber out of it

that mystery piece of steel is a vibration damper.

i put the stands on the U of where the arms bolt to the chassis.

drop the north/south crossmember
when you got the mount out, bash one of the studs out and replace with a nut and bolt.
theres actually only one stud that stops you getting it out
