first things first:
do you have a mate/relative/bitch/pet that has done it before?
sucsessfully?
if not.... then i really do think its best you save untill you can fix it correctly

sorry to rain on your parade, but you do seem very much out of your depth here, and the pontential do destroy the engine (if its not already dead) is very high.

fyi if you have been running it for any length of time, its very likely its already damaged too much.

If its the bearings you need to do this:

Take sump off,

undo big end caps, replace the bearings.

Put caps and sump back on.

Sounds simple doesnt it...

Expect the fact that you WILL have damaged the crank because you are still running it.

So you will need to take sump off, take front pulleys etc off, remove gearbox and flywheel and crap, then take off the big end and the main caps, then lift out the crank. Go get the crank ground, reassemble with the right size bearings and lube, and put it all back together.


AGAIN! If you have to ask, you can't do it. Unless you have someone to show you how.

If he needs to take the crank out and get it reground i wouldn't be expecting change from $1000 as he will basically have to pull the motor and box from the car, crack it open, remove the crank, get it ground, replace it and fit all the new stuff. (you may as well do the cambelt, waterpump & tensioners at the same time, the parts cost isn't huge and will save you a big labour bill later)

The first thing you need to do is to get an accurate diagnosis because from what i can see you are still just guessing as to what the problem is. No point going out buying parts until you know what the problem is. Trust me on this, i ordered a couple hundred $$ of parts of revhead while i was in Oz based on a diagnosis of a blown head gasket by the mate that was borrowing my car at the time.. pity it was only a leaky hose.

lol, I asked you if you had done that a day ago and you didnt answer.

ask them for a quote while you are there...beats getting an internet estimate when no-one can actually see/hear it to estimate imo.

i just took it to toyota today and the mechanic said its the clearence of the bucket and shims so i just book a clearance check to see wat happens

when you drop it off, make damn sure you ask for a roundabout price....

if they are going to redo all the clearances you may face a little more of a bill than you first expect

they said $190 for a clearence check but they dunno how much to fix it as they haven't done one before.....so i dunno aye hey rev do u know the prices for the shims for an AE111 4AGE Blacktop?

But are they under bucket type shims? can they be done without removing the cams?

so most of the cost of this repair is the labour as the parts are cheap ass, does anyone know how long it would take? to check, replace(if needed)? And they have to take my cambelt and cam pullies off to take off the cam shafts than check the clearences?

Just to check them and see if they are out is only 1/2 to 3/4 hour at the most.

If you've done enough and know what your doing it can be done in a bit less.

Just need to remove the spark plug cover, remove the HT leads, undo the three 12mm nuts and unplug the two hoses so the cam cover comes off.

Turn to TDC and check them, Turn tio TDC again and check the other one's,

Then re-assemble.

Piece of cake. but to measure them you need a good set of feeler blades and to know the feel of what's tight and what's loose, not something that can be explained.

can anyone suggest any ways to remove the timing belt gear on the crank. the one with the theath of course. its on the silvertop and this guide dosnt help as the cover is diffrent and no way can i fit 2 screwdrivers behind it.

Buy, borrow or make a puller.
1st 2 prob best option, but making one is fairly easy for the able tooled.

i have a gear puller. it was fine to get the big ones off the crank but the little one behind it for the timing belt is very hard to get at and the puller cant get in the gap of the cover.

put some oil on the crank nose, try and leaver it off with screwdrivers, you might be able to get hold of a puller with thinner legs that will get behind it?
