Caldina GTT Bonnet ---> Caldina G/GT

Searched but couldnt find anything - seems like a straight forward swap but I havnt looked closely yet but...

Can I put a GTT bonnet on to a G or GT? I have friend who has a nice G with the GT bodykit on but she really wants the GTT bonnet with scoop....

Is it a straight forward swap.. bolt off bolt on?

Assuming I can find a bonnet?

Yep it is a straight swap (put one on my mates 2.0G).
Just remeber to hook up the sprayer lines and you should be sweet.
Good luck finding one though.

just remember putting a GT-T bonnet onto a car will pressurise the engine bay (via the scoop) and mean you get less airflow thru the radiator........

I was thinking about that, and theoretically scoops are in the low presure area and will not pressurise the engine bay. In fact the air will not really flow anywhere, you willl have a cylindrical "vortex" (I can't think of the right term). Oh and other thing - even if the scoop located close to high pressure area (close to windscreen) the speed of the vehicle will not produce any noticable pressure difference to "pressurise" anything.

I once read an article somewhere where they tested a few different bonnet vent designs/placements and the ones that had the opening facing the rear actually lowered engine bay temps more than the ones facing forwards due to the differing pressures in different places on the car, the air rushing over the top created a low pressure zone and "sucked" air out of the engine bay.

I'd look for the article but I'd rather play with my new xenon lights :P

You are right, but only if scoop is reversed. With scoop other way arround (facing front) or no scoop will hardly make a difference.

depends on where the scoop is located, S4 RX7 scoops for example only get flow to around 100kph, above that speed they get no air at all.

I've *heard* that on an ST205, changing the bonnet, or blocking the part of the scoop which vents onto the cambelt is a sure way to bring about the death of said cambelt.

So there is definitely *some* effect worth having. Toyota engineers wouldn't have put it there otherwise.

Only on rally cars running antilag and heaps of boost.
On my ST205 that little vent goes into the cambelt cover but I doubt it is actually the same thing they used in rally (probably there for exterior homologation rules). With big hole in the bonnet in ST205 - it does nothing again - it is covered by heat shield and plastic cover with small holes to drain water when it is raining (I plan to remove it when I find a good stick on insulation material).
Oh and my ST165 runs a lot hotter, and I have no problem with cambelt disintegrating (although the cover is slightly heat damaged under alternator). Also big hole in the bonnet helps.

If it didn't do anything, I doubt it would be there on the Caldina then... afaik the Caldina never had homologation requirements.

:lol: all of this over a simple question - hehe she's a girl she doesnt care about high pressure low pressure and I doubt her car will overheat its a slow piece of poo but it looks nice and she likes driving it and I said that I could most likely track down a bonnet for her and give her the best of both worlds... gtt looks with out the hassels of gtt insurance and fuel consumption etc etc.... :lol:

i dont think its a cam belt vent but more for cooling the coilpacks on a st215.

i dont think you could cool the cambelt as its all sealed in.

you will find that it didnt suck air out the top
more feed cool air in from the top
the bottom of the windscreen is a high pressure area

unless the tests they are talking about were done at low speeds.

of course that depends on where the scoop is.... if it is near the base of the screen then the above applies
if its near the front (say raditor duct) then yeah as you describe

the cambelt duct is there on group A's /205's but its still blanked off i think

Ill check mine on the weekend to verify ..

As for the looks - loks is fine - just make sure it clears evetything ok - and doent interfere with any of your sensors

Example is a St185 gt4 bonnet on an St184 ( 5sfe )

the ducted air lows down on intake manifold , and has neeb known to bugger around with the air temp sensor , making the mixtures run oddly ..

Ive only heard this twice , but it also may have been a relating issue ..

i am getting my ideas already at the mo for doing my bodykit for my GTT in the next few months

can any one tell me wether if i take off my GTT bonet and replace it with a standard GT bonet for the stealth approach, and if needed do some stealthy vents ?? i have a FMIC so i dont see the need the top scoop and i figure it is creating drag for no reason now.

or is it going to increase engine bay temp etc too much not having all ventalation going through and cause any damage to other vital parts??

any ideas aerodymanic ppls??
