3SGTE problems continued...

Postby Boosted_162 » Fri Jul 20, 2007 3:31 pm

Well, the 3SGTE isnt running 100%...

I have the idle sorted, it will idle fine now. But the problem is, the car will stall after about 10 seconds everytime. Appears to be no codes now (showed some intake codes, fixed and went away). What could cause it to stall after a certain time?

And i put my radiator in this morning, i have a big water leak down the back of the motor somewhere. It drops onto the north-south crossmember. What water pipes do i have behind here?

Cheers :)

lack of fuel, lack of spark, possibly the timing is slightly out

start with the basics, remove them from the equation and work from there i guess

Lack of fuel reminds me, the fuel in there is 7+ months old so might be stale.. might have to go get some for it. Ill check the other things as well :)

Another thing i forgot to mention, is neither of my boost gauges work (factory and my defi one), so somethings obviously not plumbed in right/not working, could be related perhaps?

Just whipped out to the garage and looked at the 3S, and I believe the only water lines around the back are the few small ones that go to the TB, and there's a fairly sizable one which looks to go up under the manifold? Just checked again, goes into the TB as well. I'd say a fair bit of water would come out there if they weren't put on!!

Also, just thinking... This is a complete random thought... How long does a cold start injector run for? Could your car just be running on this, and stall once it shuts off?? Hmm?? Still learning about these things :D

Good luck anyway tho!!

Interesting point on the cold start injector, i just took it for a quick drive (up the driveway and back) and the stalling does get a bit more frequent as its warming up. Gunna have to borrow a timing light and see if the timing is correct as well...

Check for vacuum leaks?
Have you fiddled with AFM (screw and inside)?
CSI does not work on hot, also it only works when cranking.
What RPM is your idle? It might run a little bit low hence stalling.
You also have to fix your water leaks as it will mess with idle RPMs.
Put fresh gas in it as well if you have not done it yet.
Does it restart immediately after stall or takes couple of minutes to start?

Im hoping ive fixed all the vacuum leaks, ill keep looking tho.
Havent touched AFM.
Idle is about 1100, goes to about 900. It seems to idle perfectly.
Ill fix leaks and put some fresh gas in. It starts straight away after stalling.

Re the water leak, one of the "hoses from hell" which commonly fails goes between the block on the gearbox side and the coolant bypass pipes that run around the side of the engine and feeds the oil cooler.
