A1GP='sFormula Ferrari?

Now that Ferrari are the engine & chasis suppliers to A1GP has A1GP sold out & basically become Formula Ferrari by default?
Oh & does anyone else bet there'll be a surge of form by the Italian team?

A1GP just lost my veiwing, it'll be like F1 if Ferrari had they're way all the time
Ending up with spare parts in assembling things since 1983

That's fantastic news! I'm a ferrari supporter 100%. Good to see the A1GP is going with a very capable engine/chassis maker.

And to say A1GP just lost your viewing is a bit stupid - You watch it for the racing and the competition between the countrys not for who supplies the parts... Do you?!

It wont make any difference to the racing as they are all the same car at the moment anyway. By my books it would be the same but faster, no harm?

Most people couldn't tell you what the A1 chassis and engine is without looking it up anyway, so I don't see this making any difference at all.

yeah no harm.
the focus is on passing.
that is the main criteria with the cars.
if it doesnt work out in testing they will make changes to fix it.

so..... i hope you are all cheering for team NZL this weekend! :D


btw..... who thinks A1GP has the best tracks?!
other than monza and spa, id say they have better tracks than F1.
brands hatch is soooo much better than silverstone i reckon.

So whats the deal with the change, anyway? I thought the engines were pretty top notch and reliable in the current series?

It won't bring any difference really. The cars are all the same, so it comes down to skill. F1 cars have slight differences in different aspects (eg handling, power development) which give them advantages and disadvantages in different track situations.

Either way, Ferrari are going to be sittin pretty.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

It'l be a boon for A1GP - the name Ferrari holds such standing amongst both the automotive, and probably more importantly the non-automotive community that it is surely a very very smart commercial decision by those in power (more the A1GP side of things, not Ferrari....)

I mean, if you went up to the average person and said "oh man, there's a full field of Lola's racing (current chassis builder) this weekend" as opposed to "there's a whole field of Ferrari's lining up this weekend" I reckon I know which they'd get most enthused about....

He told PA Sport: “I would like to think that one of things that attracted Ferrari was the areas that we cover.

“We have a worldwide footprint and are in all the emerging markets that must be attracted to a brand like Ferrari.

“We are going to carry on with nation-versus-nation concept and uphold the A1GP brand, and Ferrari will subscribe to all of that and more.”

Da Silva believes the deal will finally silence doubters of A1GP, who have questioned the financial sustainability of the FIA-endorsed series since its launch in 2004.

“I think it says that we are not just here to stay, we are going to be growing too,” he continued. “We are taking A1GP to the next level.

I do watch it for the countries & as revvy says the passing (go the passing!!!), but I liked that A1GP was largely independent of the traditional FIA catagory structure, of formula ford, renault, bmw, GP2, etc etc. Now its just got into bed with all the traditional way of being & all the B S that goes with it. The whole point of the A1GP i thought was that it was meant to create excitement of being country v country & outside the traditional stucture of motorsport.

And I like the look of the current chasis, & not really keen on them all looking like this seasons F1 Ferrari with a bigger back end to fit the engine in, its kinda like those star cars that look like miniture falcons & commodores.

In my opinion A1GP & GP Masters should of gotten together & run on the same weekends, would of made a great spectacle with two headline acts, & made for a great weekend of top class single seater racing

How so?

They've just changed from a Lola (FIA F3) chassis, to another chassis made by another manufacturer.

Its not so much that they've changed chasis suppliers its that i'm worried what else they've agreed to with Ferarri that we don't know about yet. And A1GP's whole thing in the 1st season was based around the idea that they're different, now they're not

And as we can see with F1, the FIA is all about politics (though in reality what isn't), and my gut instinct is the more consolidated the whole motorsport industry gets the worse off for the sport it is. A point that is made in this article http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_feature_item.php and I know Lola isn't exactly a small player in motorsport, but why not leave series like this with the smaller chasis/engine suppliers?

i cant see the problem really they all stil use the same car just hopefully will be a little quiker
