ignition upgrades

Postby MR2SIK » Wed Oct 31, 2007 4:56 pm

Was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on upgrading ignition components, Ive had a bit of a look around but its all rather gobbledee goop to me
It appears my standard stuff is only just coping, so was thinking of getting something a bit stronger/reliable. Especially with further Hp gains in the next 12 months.
any help/guidance to help would be great

Cheers.
Sean.

Do you have an aftermarket ecu? if so you could go wasted spark like the 4agze and use evo coils

in what way is your ignition system not coping? are you getting misfiring at high rpm etc?

my stock silvertop single coil distributor setup is still comfortable at the same power level you're at. thats with standard 20v dizzy,20v coil, 20v ignitor and 20v leads.

I do run quite cold plugs tho, NGK 8's i think

that said i have replaced in the last 12 months, the plugs, distributor, rotor, dizzy cap, leads, coil and ignitor so its all pretty fresh.

may pay to try a freshened up standard system first and se how it goes.

yea high revvings a no go at the moment, Everything except the igniter is less than 4000kms old so on the look out to replace that too.

Running a linkplus now,

*wonders if my little brother will notice the coils missing out of his evo  *

Go for the EVO wasted mspark setup,
really is the best option for $ spent.

I have just converted to Evo coil setup from single coil on my race car.

doesn't have to be out of an evo. all the twin cam galants run the same coil packs, dime a dozen at any dismantler who's done galants

even most of the V6 mitsi stuff uses the same coils, just 3 instead of 2.

I have the odd one where both the coils are moulded together so it is all one piece, but that is the uncommon galant type.

also some hyundai sonata's have 4g63's and the bracket has everything you need... 2 dual post coils, ignitor and tacho interface

and "evo" coils an ignitors are the same as any other mitsi with wasted spark
im using n/a mitsi coils and a vr4(v6) ignitor... just not using the 3rd channel
