LINK tuners in bay of plenty region

I'm on the lookout for someone who can tune a Link G3, in the bay of plenty region and preferably on a dyno. Will get a road tune if I really HAVE to. They don't seem to have a "Link tuners" section in the yellow pages... :roll:

Anyone got any names / recommendations? or people to avoid?

Is Morrinsville too far away? if not ring Udy Automotive. Doesn't have a dyno but knows his stuff and tunes by going up and down the road. Knows plenty enough to put in a basic map and tune it from there.

reason I would prefer dyno is because they are alot more reliable and give a safer tune, correct? i want it to be a reliable car which I can drive all the time if needed.

what about infomotive in rotorua? do they just do road tunes?

obviously it would need to be trailored to wherever its going, or is there any way I could get it to a driveable state at home? (im an hour away from rotorua or tauranga). this is probably really unlikely but just asking on the off chance...

Ivan Udy has done my brothers rally car twice for Targa, one motor without and one with turbo and we didn't have any tuning related problems.
He also got an AE86 running better than another tuner in Hamilton who does have a dyno and had the car for a day to see why it felt flat. As soon as Ivan looked at the numbers after he'd hooked it all up he knew something wasn't right. Turned out the vacuum line to the Link had come off and the dyno tuner couldn't find what the problem was. It was Ivan's experience that found the problem and that is the sort of tuner you're wanting to find and use.

a mate of mine with an evo powered lancer mx got his car "dyno-tuned" at two different places, but it knocked when road driven around town... took it to an older dude who road tunes, and the problem went away.

It's all in the experience, not the tools.

Udy Auto's is the way to go i know a few of the guys there and they do a really mint job of tuning cars

interesting stuff... this is why I would've rather had a dyno tune.

"Yeah the dyno is safer :) and more importantly, allows you to properly tune your ignition which is fairly critical for reliability. You can definitely get a driveable fuel map from road tuning (private roads only etc) but the final 10% and the ignition map really require a dyno.


what do you guys think about this? correct or not ? its not exactly going to be a full on race/drag car pulling 10,000rpm every weekend - but it will be a road driven car which I would like to drive reliably.

otherwise I might make the trip to morrinsville, got family up in that area so its an excuse to visit :roll:

to be honest, if thats all it is there is absolutely nothing wrong with a road tune in your case. as for ignition, i dont know the guy personally, but i'm assuming by the cars he tunes, etc, he'll have headphones and some good knock sensing gear to use on the road tune. so it's not an issue.

an experienced tuner (that udy guy sounds like, i don't know) will know safe limits for ignition settings, so i doubt it's any bother really and if he does hear knock he'll back it off. he doesn't sound like the kinda twat that would keep on it if it's detonating. bad for business.

OI matt, go suss my brother out, both me an him have gone threw informotive in vegas, my levin i never had a problem with...

The bmw has had a little more work since its last tune an i think he guna take it to DR REPO or sumthing in tga... thats where his flatemate got the KE30 tunned up there.

Theres heaps of places bro... just gota be in the game haha

well ivan sounds like a good guy, i'll start making a few calls then... atleast I know where to start.
hopefully all going to plan it WILL actually be done by the honda/toyota drags (any more updates on this anyone??) aslong as the revin goes good.

normally deadlines are never met when it comes to cars ... :roll:
