altezza clutch

hey guys im in need of sum info on the clutch on my altezza
it's a 1998 rs200 3sge beams my release bearing is starting to rattle loudly on idle so im thinking i may as well replace the whole clutch
what i would like to know is

1 some people say you need to replace the flywheel as well is this true?
2 do you guys know of anyone that could give me a good deal on a
new clutch setup?

You don't have to replace the fly wheel, but you can't machine it, so if it's in poor condition then you have no choice.

Best way to do it, as a fly wheel is $1000+ is to get a TRD or other aftermarket fly wheel and clutch, it will probably work out cheaper, and you'll get a better clutch too.

what cant the tezza beams flywheels be machined?

It's a dual mass fly wheel, you can turn the machined suface about 30 degrees by hand. It has all the springs and dampers in the flywheel insted of the clutch plate. There isn't really any way to hold the fly wheel to machine it because the ring gear and center aren't directly attached to the surface that needs to be machined.

The TRD fly wheel however is a normal type, with a sprung clutch plate.

why the hell would they do that?

Clutchs are consumables O_o. It'd be like makeing your brake discs non-machinable.

Quite alot of the rotors now are one use too, the amount of lexus rotors we have sitting out the back of work is shocking.

Mind you, alot of the euros are just as bad.

on my mates drift s13 (s15 engine + box) they just welded the rotating bit then machined it, cuz with the dual mass it wouldnt clutch kick as teh fly absorbed most of the shock. prob not the best way of doing it.

places like BNT sell a selected range of replacement flys

Hilux/Surfs are awesome for those flywheels stuffing themselves and getting noisy. Toyota do solid flywheels and clutch setups for them, surely they have a solid option for the Tezzas too?

Chances are it wont need one anyway, just chuck a kit at it

Just be carefull you don't drive it round slipping to minimize any damage to the fly wheel. That way you should be able to just replace the clutch and not the fly wheel too.

if you have the money please replace the dual mass flywheel.

its 15kgs (dual mass) vs 5-6kg (solid)

it goes so much better.

sort of.... a kit and flywheel from other models will fit
but theres no specific "dual mass to solid" kit.

and the same cant be done for the altezza as the flywheel is so deep.

best option is to fit a TRD one if you dont like the stock set up
