silicon reducers and heatwrap

need some 3 to 2.5, anyone know where to get them for cheap, they are around 30bux for one on trademe which seems awfuly expensive for what they are also where is a good place to get some cheap heatwrap from, whats a good price to pay for this

30$ is dead cheap.

you can spend up to 75$ each for name brand reducers if you're not careful. over 100$ for elbows. stop being a jew :wink:

hey mate, if you wanting heat wrap, its pretty expensive but if yo want you can buy mine off me, i got it when i thought i was going to turb my ae85 but going NA now, so if you want pm me :)

depending on the application you might not want to cheap out on joiners either. I had poor joiners originally, it cost me the price of a new turbo due to a boost leak and subsequent failure.

i figured it much cheaper to opt for brand name joiners and t bolts clamps in the future.

why were the joiners "cheap"? ie - how did they fail?
interested in this as I have no idea what type of joiners i'm running at the moment (some are radiator hose :wink: ) and standard clips, works fine for 7psi but think i'll need to upgrade for 18psi :x

im pretty sure i've got a 2.5" - 3" joiner here which I have left over from my setup, don't need it. any donations towards getting my car on the road in exchange for said joiner are greatfully accepted :lol:

hahaha i rolled radiator hose for a while 2

not sure what they were, they were black multi-ply joiners, one looked like a piece of standard joiner from a stock evo setup or something.
they werent flexible enough, one split and while i was lapping round manfield.i noticed the boost was low at ~7psi instead of 14psi, did another half lap and then pitted. was too late by then, had overspun the turbo and the bearings were gone.
could hear a pinging noise at idle that turned out to be the compressor clipping the side of the housing and then siezing, and then freeing itself again.

not too reliable if its from a factory setup - would've thought they'd be good. the 2.5" - 3" i've got is a proper silicon joiner, just not sure what brand thats all.

and my black radiator hose blends in with the piping anyway for extra coolness 8)

o and did u have the wastegate feed at like the intake manifold or something?

not sure what you're asking there.
everything was plumbed in as it should be, only things taken off inlet manifold are boost gauge and reference pressure for the boost controller, which as far as i am aware is standard practice. (i believe its more important to be measuring and adjusting the actual air entering the engine rather than that at the turbo, which could be 1-2psi different from the pressure going into the engine.)

i reckon if i had been running 2x boost gauges, one from the turbo and one from the inlet manifold i would have seen the pressure drop immediately, ie 29psi at turbo and 7psi at engine,losing 22psi through a split joiner for example.
definately something i would consider useful in hindsight.

i mean lik how the boost controller will only be reading 7 at engine but cuz of this wont open wastegate so lik u did kills the turbo, i have my boost gauge at inlet manifold but wategate feed between turbo and intercooler so i dont have that problem

yeh i see what you're saying.

my wastegate gets its pressure from the turbo, but that is bled by the controller which gets its reference from the intake manifold.
with my boost controller turned off, it will function as you say,but once i set it to increase pressure it will raise or lower based on what the engine is seeing.

to be honest, there isnt' much difference at all between the cheap blue ones on trademe and the "brand name"

hell they probably come from the same place, just someone wants to put a different name on them. and mark up the crap out of them

FWIW, I've been using no name trademe joiners for over a year now with no problems whatsoever. I think the biggest issues with splitting/tearing them is with pipes that don't line up well, heat, and excessive engine movement.
