Who thinks the NSDW need a class change??

Postby stalker » Wed Feb 13, 2008 12:00 am

Ok so im ranting here I kno...but I mean come on!!!!

Is it really fair that there is a class that covers all cars so that a GTR gets to go up with the likes of say a GTiR...or, an RZ Supra against a GT Starlet...or, an rx3 with P/Port vs a Honda civic (bahaha).
I know that if you mod a car the right way and the right stuff you can turn any car into a fast strip car, but how much would it realisticly(sp) cost to make a starlet GT 1.3ltr beat an RZ supra (just as an example).
I know that they have DYO to make it fair, but wouldnt it be fun to see a class that would allow a honda vs toyota (FWD n/a) without rotors ripping it up? (again, as an example only)

so yea, anyone else tend to think that they need to change the classes??

/End Rant

P.S. If anyone dosent know what the classes are...here ya go:

Turbo 4wd - Heads-up - even start slower than 11.00
4WD Turbo, Supercharged, NOS, 3,4 & 6 cylinders - automatic loss if you run under 11.00 during racing.

Turbo 2wd - Heads-up - even start slower than 11.00
2WD Tubro, Supercharged, NOS, 3, 4, 6 cylinders and Rotary - automatic loss if you run under 11.00 during racing.

All motor - Heads-up - even start slower than 11.00
Naturally aspirated 3, 4, 6 cylinders and Rotary - automatic loss if you run under 11.00 during racing.

too true, but at the end of the day if you want more run at night speed, you have to be pretty good at dyo or have a fast car in your class, ESPECIALLY 2wd turbo. because there are supras and now a few other cars that can run 11.0 11.1 11.0 all night long (10.99 breakout)

if you want lots of races, things like toy/hon day, jtune, private club days are the best, next option for lots of runs is winter wars (not as good a track though) but thats all dyo, and normally have ALOT of grudge racing at the end as there is alot of time for it.

i'm assuming your rant is because you dont get many runs"?

as for me, i dont care, i just wanna get an 11

This is true, when i started racing the supra 5 years ago, and only doing high 13s, there was not alot of fast cars around then, so it was good racing but as years go by, its a lot eazer to mod your car and make it faster on the strip, but there is alot of new comers with stock cars giving it ago, but getting taken out so quick but given them time thay will get there, all i am saying is we all had to start some were, it has taken me almost 5years to get my car into the 10s.

I fully agree with all of the above. I think the classes are fine as they are. If you want more competitive races with a slower car then I'd say get really good at DYO. Or as mentioned above private meets are the way to go also. I attended one about a year ago and people got between 10-20 runs each.

no, sadly the company car wont do to well on the strip, so theres no point..lol (go the 20sec primera!)
Im mainly ranting cause i just think that they need to change the classes really...maybe just do an amendment to give the rotors their own class, and go back to the days when they had a FWD and RWD class, just some small mods to the current classes. So basicly wanted to see if I was the only one out there thinking this or not

not splitting FWD and RWD does seem a bit odd, and something that had I been doing it I would have.

you never know the constraints that they had to work to to get the show on the road so to speak... maybe time would be a bit tight if everyone got a million runs.

maybe they thought the only 2wd cars to ever be on a track would be RWD..?

it's a time thing as well, nightspeed you dont get that many hours, you look at the usa they have a million different classes, btu they run their meet for the entire day.

they do do a good job there with what they have and the time they have to accomodate the majority of the racers, they can't please everyone in the short time frame they have.

That is the big thing for me with Drag racing is the lack of track time. The last semi drag event I did was 1/8th mile sprints at 2hot2handle here in WGTN in 2 days I got 25 runs now to me that was well worth it and got to race some really good street cars as well. There were no classes on the first day so you got to race all soughts which was all good.

Why? there are 4 cyl cars that can run with the rotors.

the allmotor class points last week showed that. rotor was first, honda was second.

last year a rotor won the class, before that honda, then rotor, then honda.

the fastest pass i have seen in allmotor is 11.9 by a rotor, this car usually runs 12.2. the fastest honda is 12.1 and usually runs 12.3 but he now has cut some more weight out of that car and is confident of 11 seconds.

i would rather engine size classes because that is whats really fair. but at the moment the classes at night wars are pretty good.
12.7@174kph. no turbo, no supercharger, no NOS, ALLMOTOR.

I think they are fine as they are now.

as for 2wd turbo class, nothing wrong with FWD cars, I won the last round at night speed taking out both supras :).

Personally I think the classes are fine, but some of the matchups on the night made me raise my eyebrow. Fella in the four door EP71 running 16's vs. Mr Mongrel mob running low 12's.

There was some good competitive racing in the 4wd turbo section, not so much in 2wd turbo or NA until quite late in the event when we were left with bazda, supras, rotors etc

I can appreciate it's a bitch to organise something like that, especially when they're having technical problems. But it'd be nice to see DYO matchups within a couple of seconds of eachother at least, purely for entertainment value.

I spent ALOT less time than they have. They have been doing this for 5 years, this is my 2nd year of drag racing.
I spend about $22k including the car and all labour jobs that i couldnt do to get into 10s. I have spent more on it now cos i fitted bigger brakes etc. It took me about 7 months to get into the 10s from when the car first hit the strip.
