Need some advice......

I've just bought a 84-87 Ae82 which I intend to use as a track car and club car and don't what it be turbo or supercharged as I Don't want to enter that class of race yet
it currently has a bluetop 16v in it which has blown oil rings

(1) I'd like to Know what sort of Power I can get out of the engine if I
rebuilt it
I have budget from $4000 this is just for the engine

(2) I've been told that there is something different between Redtop and bluetop

(3) And what Sort power could i get out of a blacktop 20v

OR Build yourself a 7age. 7afe block/crank and conrods, silvertop pistons, redtop head, silvertop ITB's. You can get all these parts cheaply from trademe ($60 for pistons, 7afe engine for $300 or so, $200 for ITB's) then get yourself a megasquirt from america or run a redtop ecu and dizzy.

Can do it cheaply/do it yourself and you will have a 1800cc that goes like hell that will bolt unmodified into your ae82.

Bluetop has 88kw standard and redtop has 100kw. Redtop has slightly higher compression and smaller intake ports. If you lok around on here you will find heaps of information regarding the differences in these engines.

2 1/4" exhaust is a good upgrade, if your going to keep it 16v use the blacktop extractors. The usual like pod filter/cold air box will give you some more power, and just rebuilding the engine with new bearings and stuff will really improve the responsiveness of the engine.

But if you have $4k to spare, id buy a new engine. Rebuild it then slot it in there.

dont bother with 7age, for 4g, better off to jsut get blacktop, with silvertop rods, spend spare coin on head work cams

200cc is $&#$% all differnce, imo 7age's are only worth the effort if you are going to build a big power turbo motor

don't throw good money down the drain on that bluetop (rings etc)

if you don't have the coin yet, wait. No point spending money on an engine thats going to be replaced.

pac, you've got the right idea. Get the motor you've got running and get out on the track.
Get the car set up right with brakes & handling. Learn some race craft.
And when you are at maximum attack everywhere on the circuit and are starting to get some good results, then look at the engine.

I don't entirely disagree with BZGBling's comment however the cheapest equipment you'll ever buy is the stuff you already own. Work with it until there is a need to change.
You'll find that by the time you've done those things mentioned above you'll have saved back the amount you spent on the rebuild and you'll be a better driver too.
