my understanding of VVT on the silver top is that there is a solanoid that opens at a 3500-4000 rpm under half to full throtle that let oil into a canaster on the end of the cam which with incressed mass will retard the cam timing. but with what i am reading this has nothing to do with rpm but more to do with throtle position
Is this right???

it will not turn on the VVT if the engine is below certain temp (about quarter of the temp gauge), it will turn off the VVT after 6800-7000rpm, it will turn off the VVT if there is engine check light on.

I swear I saw years ago someone posted that silvertop only engages vvt after 3500-4000 when throttle is open enough...

whereas the blacktop can have vvt engaged from any revs

Do ...
put in a manual over-ride for the VVT ..

WHY?.
Taupo orgional track, both my 101's would cough and splutter under load at the apex of the sweeper onto the front straight. Manually overriding the VVT both cars would go through the corner fine..

If you run 100% with it on, the computer compensates (slowly), and almost idles normally -as the revs drop 200rpm and the computer will use the idle up to bring it back up.

because that's when you really need the most power,
when you not on the gas.
