it will be in the street class, it has no cage or anything, and is driven on the street all the time.

should be a good weekend

most (not all) of last years quick evo's were thinly disguised race cars and won't be running in street class this year i believe.

there are still a couple of fearful cars expected though, it should be a tight top of the field.
wasnt there a mean starlet last year as well?

thats been crashed i beleive. but yeah puke is a power track, and not as much a handling one like manfeild or taupo.

only thing is most powerful "street" cars max out the gearing on the back straight, and most before the kink

I think how well he goes will depend on what class he's in if he's in the street class and does a 1.06 I think that will be right up there I've been told if you can crack 1.10 around Puke in a street car your doing real well.I no that EVO 88u has got a high HP tune for PUKE the rumour I've heard it will be in the 600-700 HP range.

The equivalent is cracking a 1.22 at Manfield I reckon while it does'nt sound that fast in a street car with street tyres or DOTs it is still pretty quick.

1.10 is stil pretty fast for a street car, you would have to have a street car like a integra type R with semis and better suspension, with a driver who knows puke well to do those times.
I know the integra in SS2000 that has like 250hp, full slicks etc, basically the fastest honda in that class does 1.06s, I think he cracked a high 5 2 weeks ago.

But none of those cars would be in my class as its not a street car and runs a cage.

I"ll be going to the test day next friday, so most superlap runners shuold be there testing, it will be my cars 3rd time at puke, hopefully the setup is sweet now. And I hope i stop busting CV boots!!! argh (touch wood)

I would love to enter but my car doesn't comply.

maybe in a year or two either I will have a car that complies, or get my corolla road legal again.

Good luck to anyone who actually enters.
I went to Taupo Super Lap last year... it was fun. I managed to kill another 2nd hand crown wheel and pinion...
Personal experience tells me that... NZPC claim this to be an event for anyone, but really I think they're just trying to encourage people with big wallets... Therefore... there is a distinct need for MASSES of people to enter their toys & fast dailies. Otherwise this is just going to end up another wallet event.

I reckon they should have a class that is drive up and drive home no trailer queens aloud.F**K really do you need a rollcage in a time attack event I think not.

To a degree I think it already is a pull your wallet out event I mean look at EVO 88U last years winner $200 K and counting has gone into that car no wonder no one got near him at Taupo last year.Sure its each to there own but what chance do the other 99% of the field have against that and he was in the street class last year and even managed to embarrass all the so called tuner cars.

Superlap is about creating an event that people want to watch, people don't want to see crappy old cars, they want to see showroom quality going really fast.
If you want an event for anyone, go to a normal club track day, BTW you wont see many spectators there either.
High exposure track racing is a wallet event, always has, always will be.

I would very much like to see a event that is run similar to drag racing but is circuit or timed lap events instead.

Ie: you can take your new civic, your dx rolla with a 13b, your supra, your lotus 7, your van, your mad rb conversion laurel etc down the dragstrip and will get classed appropriately - you might not win but at least its not "street" and "pro" classes only.

As it has been echoed here, superlap pretty much seems to be about how much money you throw at your car. Arguably so is drag racing - but those guys are all in the pro import (?) class.

Hardest part I guess would be how you class the cars. Possibly do it on the cost/extent of the modifications - or do it based on if you drive to the day or not.

Its very much a case where something needs to change or else no one will bother and the event wont really get off the ground - who wants to even try enter their type-r if you have to put it up against some 600hp track monster evo with over $100k in development!

like have:

pro
street 4wd (ie turbo rex's evos gtrs)
street fwd
street fwd turbo
street rwd
street rwd turbo

be cool if they made it a 2 day event eventually, first day have a bunch of testing like an open day, then 2nd day is competition, but that sorta thing is down to time, and money, possible once the event gets on it's feet.

i do however think they need to pick one track, (like tskuba? in japan) they everyone uses as the base. might happen when hampton downs is done?

who knows, this is only the second time the event has run, i'll be there helping out..

PC I have to agree with your motorsport analogy in most case's the person with the most money wins.Classes would be good but the way to even things up is regulating grip I mean there should be a straight up street tyre for all classes for example no DOT slicks aloud just regular street rubber as this will harness the higher HP cars into lessening there advantage. Also I reckon since its a street orientated event full interiors would be another one i'd have as well.

17cents worth..

Classes are a great idea. Down here club racing classes are
1 : 0-1300
2: 1300 - 1600
3: 1600 - 2000
4: 2000 - 3000
5: 3000 +

turbo 1.7x (??) wankel 1.3x (??) and seem to work. could have the above as pro/street?

In regard to "how fast you want to spend" or "cheque book racing". I believe this is generally speaking directly related to class as above. However is always the exception to the rules with mugs that throw lots of money in, but it is often much much easier to be competitive in the lower engine capacity classes. To win class 5 you gotta have big hp/$$/Suspension/$$/skill/$$.

2j, what about those of us who use dot rated semislicks as street tires? i'm not gonna go buy normal street tires for one event, if they are legal on the road, why shouldn't they be legal in a "street" class on the track?

All good comments guys love the one about the roll cage. Yeah 200ks then a tyre blows and car starts to roll over and over and over wonder at that speed how many times it would roll. Guys I did this event last year and got beaten up badly by better cars or better drivers one of the two.

So im back this year and who nows how I will go, But for $100.00 I got more track time in one day than I ever had and some TV time as well.
