how do i adjust a clutch

Postby Matty104 » Mon Apr 21, 2008 8:36 pm

as the title says,

trying to get the ke going and the clutch doesnt seem to disengage, looking at the fork when it travels as far as the pedal will take it, it still has about 25mm of travel before it cant go any further, ive adjusted the circlip as far out as it can go for it to be like that

is there a way i can adjust it more?

hope that makes sense ,

Has the car been sitting for quite a while?

I put a s/h 4k and box complete into a KE70 and the clutch would not disengage but had pedal movement,

was just the plate was kinda rusted/seized onto the surfaces.

I started the car in gear and drove with the clucth depressed and loaded it up with the brake pedal till it broke free,

from then on it worked perfect till I sold it.

Usually you can just pull on the cable outer thats sticking out the firewall and put the circlip on. How far out does it pull? Should be really free to poke in and have some resistance before you get to the last bit for putting the clip on.

Wrong clutch fork maybe?

clutch etc hasnt been going for a good 6 months , but i had the clutch and flywheel all apart the other day to put it onto the 4k,

clutch fork seems to be right as it all came out of a running starlet,

the clip is on the last avalable slot on the cable, but i can feel the thrust bearing hitting the prssure plate prongs, and when i pull it by hand it feels like it releases the clutch plate, but yea just when putting the clutch in it wont pull the full distance,

i kind of understand what you are saying there HRT , so the plastic outer is supposed to slide in and out and is locked in place by the clip?

Is the clutch fork actually moving when you are pushing on the pedal? Did you put the clutch plate on up the right way?

yes it moves and the thrust bearing hits the prongs and compresses them a small amount and then my foot hits the floor , so what i need it to do is hit the pressure plate prongs earlier when im putting the clutch in,,

did you install the engine etc yourself?

might need to pull the clutch cable further through the firewall towards the front of the car as HRT describes.

had a similar issue with mine
