NAC gave me a better price than they could on my standard MR2...

Ok.

However, poster asked about an MR2 with $10-$15k worth of mods.

Thus why I posted that e-mail. They insured a caged, engine transplanted Corolla with race seats and full harness belts for me in about five minutes.

My apologies.

When posting I believed that he was looking for opinions and experiences, obviously I was somehow mistaken.

I go through John Rae insurance brokers. (which ends up with classic car cover)
Costs me less to insure the MR2 race car (road driven, valued at $16k for insurance purposes) than it did my 1.5L auto corolla!

Im with NAC on my RX7. 21, full license, few speeding tickets (nothing more than 15k over). Full cover is $1500 prem a year, $1800 excess, $3200 theft excess. Insured for $20k.

Got a quote with CLIC insurance the other day, same situation - $1200 excess, seperate excess on mods (ie if my RIMMZ stolen). cant remember what the prem is but it was cheaper than NAC.

Best thing attracting me to them so far is they let you choose your own repair shops. You pay the mechanic/panelbeater/whatever your excess and the insurance pays the rest.

Dam 8O

I pay $400 prem a year, $500 excess.

As leon said, drop noelene@johnrae.co.nz an email.

Regards

2001 Altezza RS200Z
Lots of TRD bits, but the AA consider it to not modified(something about being TRD gear).

Agreed Value of $18k(I paid $15k), costs me ~$400 a year.
28yo Male, mrs on restricted named on policy, $500 excess for either of us.

I have two speeding tickets(mid 60s in a 50 zone) in the last 3 months, they didn't care as long as it wasn't anything bad.

I'm 24 and have a Corolla BZ Touring, full cover with AMI costs $550/year, but the day I turn 25 it will drop to $280/year, less than 6 months to go!

$500PA with state, full cover and mods declared.

BZG FTW yall...

Since I have been back from aussie, i have been pretty much over throwing money into insurance and gas. The BZG suits me... haha

my premium halved when I turned 25(or 26... so long ago, memory hazy :) )... I went into the local office, and went nuts(politely, as yelling and screaming gets you no-where) at them asking what had changed over night, and managed to get it back dated 6 months.

As above, go in and ask them why it is not a gradual process, and why it is so black and white on birthday etc... you may be able to get it cheaper.

Pretty much the same with me. 1 month to go. Can't wait for the savings

Except I'm with state for my Ae101 fxgt, and my contents, and is about $660 a year all up at the moment, $480ish is for the car.

Thanks for all the info/experiences guys, there are a few other options there to try. I was putting off posting again until I had a result from the broker, no word yet. Perhaps I gave her an incorrect phone number.........

whats insurance?

but seriously i dont have any at the moment because i hardly ever drive my cars at the mo,

my old man (whose been in the industry a long time) suggested i get third party for myself, not for a car but anything i happen to be driving at the time, this could be a good idea for all those car fiends who cant say no to a bargain and end up with 10 on their lawn.

Right I just talked to the broker on the phone. The details of the offer I have so far (awaiting a fax for the whole lot) are $900 p.a premium with $1000 excess, named drivers only, 5 star alarm (any suggestions here?), 2 lock nuts per wheel. Which is a deal I am actually fairly happy with, and I also like the way there is a local office for me to deal with (read; cry in) if it gets damaged. Opinions?

through which company? sounds reasonable, i would have those items installed as piece of mind anyway.

i had a mongoose m80g on my last car, just have factory on current one.
AVS apparently is good, im putting one on my ee80 eventually.

Not sure which company yet, I forgot to pick up the details on my way out of work. I agree that stuff should be on there anyway and it would be, just thought I would leave putting alarm in just in case they wanted to get specific about brand/features. Might go for another M80g, I have one in my WRX and it has provided faultless operation + easy to get hold of round these parts.

My altezza at the time (May '07) with coilovers, mags and 5 star alarm was and still is a bastard to get insurance for. All major companies as well as NAC quoted me between $2300-$2500 premiums per year with roughly $2000 excess/$3000 theft excess. This is with me being 20 at the time with a clean license, no tickets and no prior insurance claims.

Ended up going with my bank for $1400 premium and $2000 excess - however they wont let me have any more mods :(

I'm also currently on the lookout for insurance for when the 2jz goes in this year, which has been pretty terrible so far. The only place thats been suggested that I haven't tried yet is john rae insurance. Everywhere has said no straight up due to the value of mods or because the altezza is classified as a performance car :(
