Where to get blacktop trumpets?

Yea those sock filters are a great idea, go back another 15hp.

I agree that toyota did a lot of research.... to come up with something that's cost effective, and fits in a FWD engine bay.

If you retained the original tuned length of the runners, then I wouldnt be surprised to see that some nicely machined 'straight' runners would give an increase in flow, with no real downside. (apart from probably not fitting in a FWD engine bay anymore....)

IF you're going to a RWD engine setup, then yeah, I think there's possibly benefits to having some 'straight' trumpets, assuming they're of equivilent length to the standard ones. (or there abouts)

In this case, a FWD setup, pulling off tuned length standard ones for some short ones that fit... Probably not such a good idea IMO.

Well put. Design is full of comprimises and in this case space restrictions. Even in rwd trim to get the same lenght there is issues with clearance to brake cylinders and what not.

yeah I considered the socks insurance against large objects being sucked into the engine tho

I got sick of it being slower than factory though so went back to factory intake with K&N panel filter.

Only had it for the noise, i still miss the noise

Right they turned up, they were 105mm from tip to tip with the bell mouth rolled right round. 1 piece so no weld marks and the flange was seperate so you can cut them and adjust them down. Even at 105mm they fit with room to burn in the carib
Plus they sound HEAPS better!

You would be amazed at how much sound can throw off a butt dyno.

Id give greater than even odds that its slower.

its got more pull up top because it now has less down low. Tell him to drive it for a few months, then swap to factory intake I bet he will give up the noise.

I know I did

i used to get torque steer at around 7k (maybe its not torque steer, but something got jiggy) but untill then she was pretty flat

Are you guys running stock ECU's with the trumpets?
If you are you should invest in an APEXI SAFCII or similar. You can pick one up secong hand pretty cheap(@$300). The most expensive bit will be the dyno tune. You wont even know its the same car.

If you've got time try a run with stock trumpets & aftermarket...

Yip you can deffinately get TODA blacktop ones since he put his in a late model carib BZ touring.
This is a pic of the trumpets... if he's home early enough tomorrow i'll get a photo of them on the car. Oh and they came with uni-filter socks...

He got them from TODA in aus for under $500 shipped with filters....

Those carbon fibre ones look pretty trick.

How do we work out or know the ideal length for a Blacktop, other than chuck them on a dyno and look at the power deilvery?
