Bolt 7AFE Block to 4AGE Silvertop20V??

Postby mazdaspeednz » Mon Jul 28, 2008 3:53 pm

Ive got a Levin with a 4AGE Silvertop in it but it now has a blown bottom so seen a few things and was wondering if a 7AFE block would just bolt straight in or is there more to it than that? Any help appreciated

No. You will need to change a few things.

Ask Bazda, he's done it and then added a turbo 8O :D

This is Bazda's build, I suggest you read it, its pretty impressive on its own, might give you a bit more insight.

Failing that send him a PM he might be able top give you a quick list off the top of his head

seeing as you will have both blocks it will be relatively easy, swap 4age pistons + machine gudgeons to suit, rings, bearings porsche 944 timing belt A/M comp done.

my long block cost me approx $1500 professionally built, balanced, ACL race bearings yada yada yada, was small port 16V head tho

why would different heads mean a dif belt? seeing as the cam gears are the same size? are they closer together or lower in the head?
seeing as the extra displacement comes from increased stroke so the block is about 1-2cm" taller (from memory) i dont see how a blue top belt would fit, unless the gears are lower in the head, or closer together. which i doubt they are.

the 20v cams are spaced alot closer together than a 16v.

Just google both heads and you will see :).

Thats why a normal 16v belt fits a 7a block with 20v head.

and the two different types of cam belt tensioners, hydraulic on BT and mechanical on ST, also give slightly different belt lengths.
