dont u get continued acceleration on a supercharged engin if u hav a frount mount inter cooler and lots of pipeing? would a blow off valve stop that in this situation?

It would be bugger all extra accelerating time anyway, BOV isn't going to help things. The excess pressure the BOV would be releasing would be after the throttle and the way a BOV works is by using intake vacuum (after the throttle) to open the BOV and release any extra pressure that has formed before the throttle. If you try to set up a BOV on the supercharged engine with lots of piping to fix the problem you speak of then there is always going to be the same pressure on either side of the BOV and it'll never actually open.

where the PISSHHHH noise releases the boost when the engine's ecu belives it will receive that air. and injects the approperate fueling.

with a map sensor'ed car, the ecu will only inject what the engine *thinks* (due to mapping etc) it will need fuel wise... i think thats right, so @ x of vac, it injects x of fuel.

losing that air / boost, results in higher vac / lower boost whatever, so less fuel is required, since less pressure exists.
thus, wankie bov's on afm'ed cars = silly and cause engine to hate you
wankie bov's on map sens0rz0red cars = the shiz wizza gizza

Wtf? Thats err ... very incorrect :? Read what vvega said dude ... bov's are completely unrelated to AFM / MAP sensors. The bov works off pressure in the manifold. When the throttle snaps shut, the bov opens to release that pressure, to prevent surge going back against the turbo. Its nothing to do with running rich or how much fuel is injected. Turbo'd cars with AFMs still have the risk of compressor surge ... hence needing BOVs.

Dude, you really need to stop posting such inaccurate nonsense :? No offense, but sometimes I wonder where the hell you get this stuff from.

Cosmo had a confused way of saying it-
AFM - measures air volume pre turbo, if you run a vented rather than plumbback BOV you are venting air that the computer has already fueled for therefore the car runs rich.
MAP - measure the air volume from the inlet manifold AFTER the throttle butterfly, therefore any air vented by the BOV has not been measured by the computer so does not affect the fueling.

it would be a choice of noise / required due to air - intake changes...

(unless you get a bit of bling bling pipe like fivebob which allows pod + stock BOV)

No it would make it worse, The throttle closes to stop air getting to the engine to slow it down,

an open BOV would let the air in again and cause the throttle hang longer.

Dragger_Dan wrote:It's amazing to listen to the amount of excessive noise people make with BOV's and screamer pipes. The thing I don't get, is why do you sometimes hear a BOV on a full throttle gear change... isn't that counter productive? Shouldn't a well tuned setup mantain boost pressure at WOT changes to keep as much power as possible?

At WOT the turbo may be flowing 50 (or whatever) litres or air a minute, and when you close the throttle so it doesnt go into the engine, where does it go.

Two options,
The BOV open and lets it out so the turbo can keep spinning,
OR
The turbo blades must slow down or stop pumping air into the system as it has no where to go.

about as cool as externals or a pair of 15" subs at full noise

Used to turn heads, but now everyone has em and people just roll their eyes and think 'pfft wot a tossa'

Fair enough on a big power gtr or something, but on wrx's, gtx's, mr2's etc its just all noise and no go
