the only thing that stops it is unpluging the abs unit

I would suggest that you check the wires attached to the piggyback ECU are correct, and if they are can you post which ones are used.

it dosent make sense tho surely if the problem was in the wiring to the ecu when i unplug it it would cut power to the pump but so far the only things that will stop the abs unit runing is unpluging it straight off the pump or disconnecting the battery.........

Some of the plugs that fit the ECU also fit into the ABS computer so they may have been swapped over. IIRC the ABS plugs are a different colour to the ECU plugs, one is black the other is white.

Also the ABS computer take some inputs from the ECU to determine if it should activate the ABS, though this should stop the ABS if ther computer is dicsonnected.

abs ecu is built into the pump is it not?? all i have is a engine ecu and a abs sensor inside the car under the center console are you saying there should be a seporate abs ecu inside the car??? i cant see any extra wiring under the dash for that...........i hope he hasnt chopped some shit out.......

If it's an auto then there is one under the dash, if it's manual then it's only the one in the engine bay and swapped plugs will not be an issue.

To possibly eliminate ECU, or it's wiring, as a cause try unplugging all the ECU connectors then see if the problem is still there, other than that you'll need to check for ABS error codes.

yeah its a manual i have powred up the car and unplugged the ecu one by one but like i said the only thing i can see that turns it off is unplugging it direct off the pump......it has a map2 insalled into it at the moment which the guy managed to wire up wrong it has now been wired in properly kept blowing all kinds of fuses im wondering if he has put power to an earth or something and has fried something in the abs pump/computer.....ill get someone to come round with and obd2 scan tool see if it pick up anything

You can check the codes without a scanner.
Image
a) Turn off the ignition.
b) Jumper pins (13) "ТC" & (4) "CG" in connector DLCЗ.
c) Turn ignition on and read any codes.

Shorting TS(Pin 14) and CG(Pin 4) can also generate some codes but I'm not sure if these are the same or are related to the VSC/TRC system which your car doesn't have.
