Boost problem

Postby samlloyd » Sun Sep 14, 2008 11:56 am

My rb30det isnt boosting as much as it was a few days ago. Under WOT it wont go over 1Bar, when it would normally see 1.2

All intercooler hoses seem ok, and it idles sweet (once warm)

Any ideas?

is the vacuum showing the same as usual on the gauge? if not it could just be the hose for the gauge springing a leak, happened to me once. spent ages trying to find a non exsistant problem

Vacuum doesnt appear to be out of the ordinary.

I dont think a hose has popped off as this would cause an irratic idle.

Turbo dieing could be a possibility, but the shaft still feels ok.

Wastegate actuator feels fine, and can only open once there is enough pressure there.

I feel there is a leak only when under boost. It sounds kind of like an external, but with air more then exhaust. I will check all the exhaust flanges aswell. But for it only to be doing it when under high boost.

(you can only hear it leak at about .9 Bar)

Common problem with Rb's apparently is broken exhaust manifold studs causing an exhaust leak. Look for traces of carbon around your exhuast manifold and exhaust housing flanges.

You would think that the exhaust leak would be all the time, not just when its under full boost. But i wll check, thanks
