If you're over 25, and do a defensive driving course (3 days theory), then you're only on your restricted for 3 months.
That said though, why should adults not have to go through the same process?
Take for instance, my mother. I've had 3 crashes, two of which weren't my fault, after owning 55 cars, and have been driving for around 9-10 years. My mother has been driving for roughly 35 years, has had 4 cars. She has crashed/scraped her car at least 10 times.. in the last year. She even hit the beer fridge as she was backing out of the garage, and backed into the fence more times than I can remember.
Age does NOT mean experience, if anything it makes for a worse driver due to low spatial awareness and lack of caring/fear for other road users. When you're young and just starting out, you have a huge awareness and are much more focussed on what you're doing, but as you get older, you'll notice that you're much more willing to shoot smaller gaps, run late orange lights, speed considerably, because experience tells you that you'll more that likely get away with it.

Its not wonder half of the country think cops are a joke, bad eggs like him give the whole lot a bad name imo.
This rule is such an ar*e, how different is 7pm in winter to 10pm in summer?
What is so magical about driving at night?
Instead of implementing proper driver education and training they come up with that shite.
Grown up adults on restricted - what a joke.
Restricted licence should be different: leave no passengers, take time factor out, and put speed factor in.
Like restrict to 90kph on high way. Or maybe restrict the weight of the vehicle. The bigger the weight the bigger the mess.
I think it is a lot more dangerous driving in the rain mid day, than 1.00am on empty road.
It is all because of dumb buttocks politicians having a go at us.
