There was a Legacy wagon that did a couple of Targas a few years ago and also a handful of Impreza wagons kitted out for rally duty.

on both counts! those years of the BTCC were the best touring car racing i have ever seen. i would so love for them to go back to that formula!
the current WTCC arnt too bad though.

and there was a WRX Wagon for sale about two years ago that had homologation papers for some African rallies.

you can do anything ... i've seen several SW20's MR2 as rally cars.

Also the ex Turners RS4 Targa / race car is cool. It did the Endurance series and looked good out on the track. It's also up for sale if you have a spare $50k lying around.

That Audi I recall got turned into a cube in the first day of a Targa (the first event for the car) when it met a tree at high speed. Rumour says that a horrendously expensive re-shell exercise was then called for.

I thought that was doing the Auckland Domain sprint it nailed the tree???

It may also have done that at a later date, but I believe that it was newly built then immediately crashed at a Targa event. Don't recall if it was the Targa Bambina or the full Targa, I just remember that the passenger should consider that they were lucky to still have legs.

Yeah it was Targa Bambina run round Taumarunui a few yars ago. If I remember right it was about 2km into the 1st stage and 2m off the ground when it it hit. I think they said that when it got to the tree, it cost around $70-80,000 per special stage km

From what I've heard the car was shipped back to Germany to be reshelled, only cost about $150k or something

Went for a drive in it one day while we had it at work, nothing quite like driving a full blown racecar to PaknSlave to buy some milk for morning tea

Prologue day for Targa - the guy stacked it approx 2km into the "take it easy, get in the groove, if you crash you're a moron" stage. Must have been 2003 as I was following though behind the field processing results, the car really was quite a mess. Easy corner too, just came in too fast, panic time, slam on brakes and straight into the scenery.

I believe it was the owner of Turners who built it and was driving, he wanted to try this rally-driving thing but wanted a serious car to do it in.

I think he then fixed it, went and did Bambina the following year and demolished it, needing the reshell. The gave up and walked away.

Wasn't the owner, its a publicly listed company

Jeff Wesley was the CEO at the time, they just wanted a toy and justfied it by putting a few stickers on the side...that was back in the day when they had money to run the Audi, the offshore powerboat and sponsor Scott Dixon among others...

I've been told that car cost Turners almost $250k after the initial build and all the mishaps
