medical certificate will be the cost of visiting your GP, its just a standard health assessment to make sure you are fit and healthy to drive a truck.

Anyway, the theory test is around $40 and the practical test is about $50.

What do you mean by not staying on the learner license? There is no learner class for Class 2. You just sit the theory and then the practical, assuming you have had your full Class 1 for at least six months otherwise you need to do an LTSA approved course.

yeah its pretty easy
can only really fail of your a muppet

my driving test was easy... i'd been driving the truck at work for a few months before i sat my license  and the route he took me on was part of one of my runs
the "tricky driveway" he wanted me to test my reversing skills on was one i did twice a week

i had driven the truck once before passing class 2, from memory it was like $300+ i did it through mainland driving school in chch.

but yeah like revhead said have to be a muppet not to pass same with calss 4, i had never sriven a truck that big with the road ranger 16 speed 'box etc passed easy as.

at the driving schools itys basically pay the money, get the license

oh ok yea from what i gathered from the ltsa website you can hand in a medical cert and do the theory test and then you have a learners, its not until you go for your full that you do the practical. maybe i read it wrong. but nah all good information. yea iv driven trucks a few times before but my employer has a better position waiting for me if i get it!

i did my class 2 thru work about 3 years ago, i was lucky as they paid for the lot, was about $790 thru one of the driving schools in auckland,

medical is easy, they check your eyesight etc nothing major they dont ask you to bend over and cough :D

first stage you present the medical, pay and do the scratchy test and they give you your learners, you must have this to do the practical and thats just a simple drive, they dont care how bad you change gear etc, just that you know the road rules blah blah blah

Class 2L is the license you have after you pass the theory test, for the 6 months before the practical assessment that gains you a Class 2F. If you don't have Class 2L you cannot undergo practical training (just like a Class 1L for your car.)

Class 2 is fairly painless, only thing when driving a bigger vehicle is thinking about the placement of it (esp if towing a trailer) when cornering and taking into account stopping distances.

(Golden rule.. leave it in third!!)

Course once you move up into Class 4 zone and go into bigger gearboxes, thats another can of worms. (I did my class 2 and find it useful, but the biggest vehicle I drive these days is technically only class 1... that said it's an old POS and Class 2 techniques are damn useful).

yep sorry my bad, I went straight through a driving school so there was no 6month period lol. Class 4 was pretty simple, bugger doing it in a road-ranger though haha, I did mine in a seven speed eight wheeler lol
