non toyota coolant leak.

Post by hsmidy »

Hey so ill give you a run down, blow the head gasket in my 93 lancer with a 4g92 engine soch engine in it, sweet as replaced the headgasket etc and all new o-rings on everyting etc.

anyway theres a pipe that runs along the back of the engine under the intake manifold from behind the waterpump to the thermostate housing its a bit of a press fit and use's to rubber orings to seal it(which i replaced) long story short i put it all back together and its leaking past the oring that seals at the water pump end.

any ideas on how to seal it up ?

sounds like the housing where the o-ring seats is corroded a bit allowing water past.

i would probably smear a good dollop of loctite bluemaxx silicon around it an reassemble(bluemaxx has a high glycol resistance )

Yeah when i pulled it all apart it all looked pretty tidy aye and i gave it a clean up, after putting it back together and it leaking i tried sealing it up with some silocine(admittedly not the lotite stuff) and it still leaked.

if its leaking around the O ring, something is not right - at a guess you used the wrong o ring, or its been twisted when you put it back together

shouldn't need silicone!

nar o-ring is mint and it was identical to the one removed, i know it shouldnt need silicon but ya gotta try these things, i might try getting an oring with a larger outside diameter.

smear rubber grease on the o-ring before pushing the pipe in. other wise the ring can roll out of it's groove.
meh.....

tried that as well, plus its a pretty tight fit in the groove i highly doubt it would just roll out

perhaps the pipe is not sitting squarely into the back of the waterpump, are any of the tabs that hold it to the block bent or anything?
