Insurance - Once again!!

Postby MrOizo » Tue Nov 04, 2008 1:59 pm

Just wondering what there is out there again as far as insurance goes.

Even a broker that people have had good experiences with?

They don't cover anything over 5 or 10 years old I was told when I enquired, although they do only repair with brand new genuine parts which is a bonus.
Ending up with spare parts in assembling things since 1983

I just insured my BMW 540i (4.4L V8 210 KW) with CLIC car insurance who is underwritten by AMI for 960/annum. Not bad for a guy with about 2K+ of fines still being paid off. Granted most were for warrant and reg (damned celica) but it still counts and still makes me look really bad with insurance companies.

Edit not quite 2120KW :)

+1 for Toyota insurance. Didn't care about wheels and that the car had been lowered so long as the wheels weren't over 20% (i think) of the value of the car and that it was legally lowered. Under 25 and think its around $30 a month (for a very powerful car IMO) for the rolla

Yeah I'm with CLIC $1035 a year all mods listed. Everyone seems to get cheaper insurance than me no matter who I'm insured with though :?

I'm feeling that pain.

Was with NAC on the AW11, stock standard car and was paying $1100 per year, and that was my cheapest quote! 8O

What do you guys have to pay for excess though. I'm 2.5K outta pocket if I get into trouble.

2.5k ouch!!! I think (being over 25 ftw) mines around the 250 mark with toyota insurance.

AMI wanted the same amount for a stock standard car and wouldn't cover my "high risk high performance mods" All I have is rice, no engine mods or anything haha bloody ricer tax

I've got the car valued at $13,000.00 but I think I need to raise that as I can't find one anywhere near as good of a condition for that price. So that might be why the premium/excess etc is as high as it is. However I'm happy as a pig in mud as my 1989 Corona cost me $89/month for insurance at $2,500.00 agreed value with $500.00 excess. So win some, lose some.

Should also have mentioned I'm 22 with a restricted licence.

That was only third party. I now have full, cover on the BMW and it costs less. :)

$1500 excess for me $2000 if the mrs is driving .
Ridiculously large insurance excess pisses me off. It goes against the point of insurance. If I had the thousands of dollars lying around to afford the excess I wouldn't bother with insurance would I?

if you run into/write off a $100,000+ merc /bmw /ferrari etc $2000 will seem insignificant
