I've been trying quite hard to get agreed value on my car.
Would love it insured for 12k agreed value.
I dont trust market value on a modified ke30.
At the moment.. i dont even have insurance . Was quoted $300 more per year for insurance than what my evo4 costed, evo was a 2ltr turbo 4wd pushing over 200kw at the wheels with a fair wack of mods.
Toyota is only 1.6 RWD and around 130kw at the wheels... dont know why they want so much
AMI wont insure for agreed value very often, we got a quote from them for our 2JZ powered surf but they didnt want a bar of it! Sure they do agreed value but usually on vehicles with mods that are no more than a certain % of the market value.
If you want agreed value on a very modified/special vehicle go to
http://www.classiccover.co.nz and be prepared to specify every part of the vehicle which is modified and also supply pics. This will usually be reviewed and hopefully
accepted by them and they will agree on the value of the car. For instance our SE104 rally car has an agreed value simply by doing the above things

I'm sure that his claim 8 years ago has little/nothing to do with his premium. They usually only care if you have been denied insurance or the likes.
We care about denial of insurance & claims also driving history licence held, age, area of country which car is in, modifications which attract attention etc
The bottom line is certain underwriters (insurers) specialise in certain risks or 'policies' State specialise in basic covers for house/contents/run-of-the-mill cars, AMI is the same, AA is vehicles and NZI direct is basic domestic and business covers. If you have a specialist item, it needs a specialist underwriter. You will get VERY varying quotes from different companies purely because some have more pulling power than others in different areas.
If you have a question feel free to ask me as I do work with ALL sorts of insurance companies everyday.
