$800/year. $250 excess. $15k agreed value.

Our BMW is half the premium with State with the same insured value.

How old are you?

I've been trying quite hard to get agreed value on my car.

Would love it insured for 12k agreed value.

I dont trust market value on a modified ke30.

At the moment.. i dont even have insurance . Was quoted $300 more per year for insurance than what my evo4 costed, evo was a 2ltr turbo 4wd pushing over 200kw at the wheels with a fair wack of mods.

Toyota is only 1.6 RWD and around 130kw at the wheels... dont know why they want so much :(

I'm 28 and the last claim I had was eight years ago.....

Go figure, my modified MR2 turbo was $370/year with $250 excess full cover with listed mods and that was agreed value $7500.

Somehow a Renault Clio Sport is more of a risk than an MR2 turbo :?

Mr.Phreak wrote:$40/month for the Soarer with AMI, have had a few cheaper quotes from other places but none cheap enough to make me change. They didn't care about any mods as long as they were legal and not over a set value. Then again, I'm an old b**tard now, used to cost a bit more when I was under 25

Never had any problems with claims, excess refunds are quick etc etc, which for my piece of mind is worth the extra few dollars a month.

It's surprising how much some people love their insurance company when all they've done is pay them money and never had to make a claim.

im with them too, worked with insurance companys for 6 years when with toyota. ppl ask me why i dont like state, first up, cos i worked with them for 6 years.... and they always quote me more than AMI.

i made my first ever insurance claim yesterday
some &#$%* didnt tie down some steel beams on his truck, and they landed on my car....
got the guys details, handed them to AMI and its all being taken care of, no excess, no loss of no claims no hassle.
which is more than can be said for state...

They wouldn't insure me anyway since I lost my licence for a month.

But he had his mr2 insured for $370/ year? (will all the right mods  )

I'm sure that his claim 8 years ago has little/nothing to do with his premium. They usually only care if you have been denied insurance or the likes.

AMI wont insure for agreed value very often, we got a quote from them for our 2JZ powered surf but they didnt want a bar of it! Sure they do agreed value but usually on vehicles with mods that are no more than a certain % of the market value.

If you want agreed value on a very modified/special vehicle go to http://www.classiccover.co.nz and be prepared to specify every part of the vehicle which is modified and also supply pics. This will usually be reviewed and hopefully  accepted by them and they will agree on the value of the car. For instance our SE104 rally car has an agreed value simply by doing the above things :)

We care about denial of insurance & claims also driving history licence held, age, area of country which car is in, modifications which attract attention etc

The bottom line is certain underwriters (insurers) specialise in certain risks or 'policies' State specialise in basic covers for house/contents/run-of-the-mill cars, AMI is the same, AA is vehicles and NZI direct is basic domestic and business covers. If you have a specialist item, it needs a specialist underwriter. You will get VERY varying quotes from different companies purely because some have more pulling power than others in different areas.

If you have a question feel free to ask me as I do work with ALL sorts of insurance companies everyday. :)

Why may I ask wouldn't state cover you in this instance? I've had 2 claims with state hassle free both times, No excess, no hassle, no loss of no claims so how are AMI better?

6 years experience working with panel beaters doing insurance claims.
i have seen rather a lot of hassle with state
delays in processing
nit picking in parts supply
insisting on repairing (bog) rather than replacement
basically in my experience of dealing with state insurance and panel beaters, i have developed a rather profound dislike and distrust of state insurance.
add to that their consistent higher prices when iv shopped around for insurance, and their reluctance on agreed value (AMI have never turned me down on agreed value)

Well I and many others have had good dealings with them, IMO they are a hell of a lot cheaper than AMI, And are you saying AMI will replace a stone dented panel with a new one rather than using bog, AFAIK all insurance will do the cheapest repair possible as long as it is up to standard. That is how they make money, I have never had any delays, With AMI it took them about 6 months to sort out my old Levin when a guy backed into it in front of about 6 witnesses, I had to take time off work 3 times to go to disputes tribunal with them.

no thats not what im saying

what im saying is in the 6 years i worked with them i found them to be a lot worse to deal with and a lot worse on the customer than AMI
and that every time iv rung for a quote, they were significantly dearer than that. simple as that.

faarrrkkk paying what some of you guys are paying... on the 01 Altezza($15k agreed value) it costs me ~$400 a year, with $250 excess, if the mrs is driving it, it's $500 excess with AA, I'm a member so I get 65% no claims bonus. the mrs car(kia picanto) costs ~320 a year, same excess.

I'm 29, with speeding tickets, havent lost licece recently(did at 21 due to demerits).

Have claimed in the past, all for things like nailed in a car park, front and back bumpers, no note nothing, not my fault, so paid excess, but didn't take off my no claims bonus as it wasn't my fault.

grr never thought I would be in this boat as I've been with State for 5+ years, have had no claims whatsoever, have three cars and contents insurance with them. I put a set of $1200 wheels on my car which is (well was) insured for 3rd party and theft, which they devalued down to $2000  , they immediately decided the car is now modified and have taken me off 3rd party fire and theft, and they can only offer me 3rd party only. I thought I was doing the right thing declaring the wheels cause I would sure as heck want them covered should something happen, and the opposite of what I wanted happened. Grr. They suggested I tried NAC but I'm not going to pay the value of my car each year in premiums alone, and their theft excess would be higher than the value of the car!

I tried AMI but they wont insure turbo vehicles for people under 25 full stop, AA want a full years payment up front (not easy when you have 3 cars + contents all at once), Tower are sh*t as my flatmate got royally screwed over by them when his laptop was stolen. Will try brokers and other places suggested in this thread and post back.

FWIW. Clic Car insurance will require at least 6 months paid up front. BUt are definately worth a shot. For 3 cars that could be quite a hit. But, you could try keeping your contents with some one like who will do a per month basis.

Got nothing but praise for clic, was previously with NAC as may be mentioned in this post, and am now paying less than 50% of what I was paying previously so I just payed the 12mths up front.

You are right though, they do require at least 6 months

I don't mind paying 6 months up front, I'm planning on keeping the car for a long time so it has to be paid anyway. But I'm going to sell off my other two cars in the next coming months so would be good to have that option to pay fortnightly/monthly - although most companies would refund you for what isn't used.

Will try CLIC then, I remember being referred to them once but there was some reason that I can't remember why I didn't go with them.

Of course the other advantage of paying this way is that you aren't paying for the interest that they charge if you pay it off monthly (Yes, it's true, they do, read the fine print :) ) We used to get this all the time at my old work. Used to explain to people that they are probably better off paying it annually.

Also gotta love the phone number 0800 CAR LOVE. Dodgy but easy to remember.

strange - unless it was AA who wouldn't insure the turbo and AMI wanted yearly payments.
