Lowering Spring Advice.

Postby headshotnz » Mon Nov 24, 2008 6:08 pm

Hey guys, (and girls :P)

I have a AE100 toyota sprinter 94 LX.

It has 17" wheels on it and looks like a should by four-wheel driving.

I'm going to lower it this summer hopefuly, my plan is to get some monroe shocks. But i dont know what springs I would like to get.

I'm not looking for a "super-low" look. More or less, im wanting the stiffest ride possible, (I hate body roll :()

Jamex has cheap springs on TM, but i beleive there not very soft. I dont really know that much about other brands, Also im not wanting to spend much, mabey 400/500 etc. (not including shocks.)

I also dont know were to buy TRD springs from, they may be good?

Any way, any advice would be great :)

I'd probably go down this path.

Buy new GENUINE Toyota shocks
Buy TRD springs.25-35mm drop most likely - they won't drop 50mm if thats your plan.

Good result for reasonable money.

Check the sponsors section, we have someone that supplies us with Toyota / TRD parts a good rates.

However, in my car I went Cobra springs and KYB shocks. If I was buying again though I would go with my above choice and stay Toyota bits. Monroe shocks seem to get bad comments, not great performance and don't last all that long. (just what i've read). KYB have a good name, better than Monroes.

If you're after 50mm drop, theres a few options for springs, all probably much of a muchness for your car. Cobra, Kings, Jamex etc

I had Jamexs in an ST202 and they were too soft. Hit the bumpstops a fair bit. I'd go king springs low (300-400?) or TRDs (600?)

i got jamexes in my levin, harder than factory, but still not very hard to bottom out. my rear shocks were stuffed, stuck KYB's in and omg what a difference, no longer could i jst step off the gas mid corner and slide the tail out, the car now sticks to the road like glue. and i got shitty tires. i always buy kyb shocks, had them in my starlet too
EP82 GT-went mega hard for completely stock, 15.09 quarter, gone now :(

Yeah, my stock ones bottom out a little.

What would a set of KYB's set me back roughly?

monroes have a longer warranty than genuine
the monroes stocked for that model in nz will be fine

a 50mm drop is quite a lot for an ae100 series car, they are quite low underneath, so make sure it will still be legal as superlows are often under 100mm minimum height on those cars.

you maybe able to get 50mm lower springs from king, the problem is king springs are average quality at best.
youd be better off with cobras or dobis, im pretty sure cobra have a superlow and dobi also list one, though i think its more 40mm than 50mm
