Intake Manifold Runner lengths?

Postby cat007 » Sun Dec 14, 2008 8:19 pm

Hey,

Is there anyone on here who can help me out with intake runner lengths?

I'm in the process of making a manifold from scratch and not sure what length to make the runners. Does it matter that much on a turbo'd car?

It does matter for both NA and turbo - don't believe the "air just get forced in" myth.
Look at the factory length for a turbo engine. Probably tuned for drivability so if you are looking for more power at higher revs maybe use 70 or 80% of the factory length

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

I believe that the shorter the runners, the more high end power, while the longer are more torque. Ofcourse everything has to be tuned you can't just stick some pipe on to lengthen it.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Another thing to consider is volume, if its to big your going to loose alot of your air speed
