i usually modify the existing fuel tank,
imo its easier and you know the tank is going to fit no worries
carb systems run low pressure the factory rubber hose will not withstand the pressure from a efi pump,
most carb setups have a mechanical lift pump on the engine, nothing in tank.
the carb feed out of the tank is usually small,
i use the factory fuel supply as the return, any return fuel isnt under much pressure, the carb fuel lines handle it fine
i then weld in a new fuel pick up and supply into the tank, normally 3/8 in size and run new fuel lines to the engine as required,
and run an external fuel pump
copper line is fine to use, i like to weld fittings on the end of it to use pushlock hose tails etc, not a big fan of just hose clamping rubber hose to the copper tube,
keep in mind that most of the fuel hose from supercheap / repco etc is low pressure not rated for efi, it does tend to swell up and burst
it can take a bit of hunting around to find the right stuff, its usually around $45pm anything a lot cheaper id be wary of.
i usually go straight to hydralink,
