If you want practicallity and some power then you really should consider a Legnum VR-4. For the price you pay for them these days you get so much car for the amount of money you pay. Just make sure its a manual....

Yeah joking about the whole sex with a man thing. Turb wagons are awesome I reckon, just had a mate getting smart and decided to put that in there for sh*ts and giggles.

Anyway, now torn between a gt-t and a celica gt-4. And other things too I guess ... but yeah I know they're 2 different cars for 2 different purposes but damn I love the engine.

haha i just found it to be such a smooth engine. Test drove a v7 sti straight after and even though it was f*ckloads quicker it was still just such a brutal engine. There's a gt4 on trademe for $7750, 150xxxkms that I'm going to test drive tomorrow, so hopefully that'll be all good. And if I end up getting one around that price I'll have a bit of coin to throw at it. Eventually I'm hoping for around 190-200kw atw but that's an ultimate sort of goal, happy to keep mods small for now ... main reason I'm prefering the gt4 over the gtt really, the turbo-manifold issue on the gtt is a bit of a let down in that department for me to be honest..

Tbh the manifold issue isnt that much of a big deal, its just annoying. But if your looking to get 200kw atw then GT4 is the way to go.

yeah the sti was boosting 17psi though so that had something to do with it. I just mean I like how much smoother the 3sgte is than the ej20t. And the potential for power is still very much there.

haha well it's true! Sti's are quicker, but then again they're a lot more temperamental and less reliable. Tbh I really like the look of the GT4's more too .. don't sound as good thought

Just change it to an aftermarket manifold and turbo, the exhaust housing on the factory turbo is small and restrictive anyway. Do the exhaust and better intercooler on top of that and you'll have your 200 kw

How much do you reckon it'd cost to change the factory manifold/turbo to aftermarket?

A GTT would be heaps more practical than a GT4

About $1.5k with a driven performance turbo and manifold, plus all the extra bits and pieces (don''t recomend the DP turbo fitting kit as it doesn't have many parts you will use), not including labour. You will want (need) a new downpipe made up, and there's a possibility of broken studs to deal with.

You could price up a genuine toyota turbo from the 2000 onward models which don't have the warping issue due to correct manifold design. They have a different part number for the studs, so I don't know if you have to replace the studs, or if it will bolt straight up.
From memory the new toyota turbo was around 2-2.5k (maybe including labour?).

that badge looks like it's off something else......I just can't remember what - but I've seen it before.

That looks like just another GT-T and whoever registered it first in NZ wrote down whatever the badge said
