Ok so really wanting to know the external differences between the 1st and 2nd gen 3sgte engines, and what bolt up problems i will run into?
I have a complete st165 with smokey engine and a ready to be runin gen2 3sgte longblock that has been waiting for far to long to be put in a car...

if your ploping the gen1 head on the gen2 its a rather simple swap.

you will however run into interesting bits when it comes to the oil adaptor and heat exhchanger id have to go investigate theres a little heat exhanger on the block mounted with 2 big bangos you will see it there and i dont think the oil system works quite the same way.

If your just changing the head there wont be any problems, Nothing will really change except the mountings on the head for the intercooler.

I have a 165 block with a 185 head and its sweet, the only thing you will have a problem with is if you put a 185 turbo on a 165 block as the turbo sits really close to the oil lines to the cooler.

But if your just putting the 185 engine into a 165 i have done this also, apart from the wireing its more or less the same, youd want to run the 165 intercooler so you dont have to cut a hole in your bonnet. but it wont bolt up to the head, but you can figer something out.

no real problems in the swap.
