Yeah I'm pretty much with Mr Revhead here man. Ok, so on the most basic level perhaps someone wouldn't have been hurt/killed at that place and time. But I for one expect the sort of person to go out and commit crime while carrying a loaded gun to use it eventually.
I'm all for police chasing people.
Especially when there's danger to the public during the chase. I sometimes feel from what I see in the news that we're not actually aggressive enough in these chases. (What's that thing on that american cop show? the pit or something? Never seen or heard of NZ police using this sort of tactic even if they do - it's all spike strips, road blocks or the chasee crashing.) I wouldn't think that hanging further back would make someone slow down or drive taking less risks. They still want to get away completely.
Complicated issue for sure, but if I'm hit and killed as an innocent bystander whether by the cops or by the crims, I'm blaming the runner. I'd so totally haunt his arse too.
