atf for toyota funcargo/vitz

Postby JASON_SHEMAN » Fri Feb 06, 2009 12:21 am

hi...

i just bought a toyota funcargo 1.3 automatic and do a full service...
i also ask them to change the atf.....
after i go home i found they use castrol TQ Dexron III atf instead of geniune toyota one...and read from the net i can only use geniue toyota atf for my box...is that true?

if so, whats u guys recommend to do? go toyota to do complete flush? or any recommend workshop in auckland can do it with geniue atf?

or it is ok to drive like now?

thx

I can't comment on the atf they put in, but not many people use genuine parts / fluids. I can't imagine the atf you got put in causing problems, but i'm sure someone will confirm either way.

You probably have nothing to worry about.

some of the late toyota autos do use a specific fluid, though prob not a funcargo, more likely ina lexus or a late toyota equivalent
look on the dip stick, it should have the fluid type on there.

ok thats type 4 atf

if you want to pay for the fluch and change take it to toyota
otherwise talk the garage and give them the chance to rectify it
you just have to trust them that they will flush it and use the correct fluid

Might wanna just check that as Castrol and Valvoline both make a transmission oil that covers Dexron anything as well as a lot of the specific manufacturers stuff such as the Type IV stuff from Toyota, GM, Mitsi, Dodge etc.

dexron 3 is a bit different to t-iv though

looking on the castrol site they do some t-iv type fluids that can be used in dex iii, but none of their dexron fluids can be used for t-iv

You might right. Popped into work and it says on the Dexron stuff that its suitable for all Toyota transmissions requiring "T" oil and all GM stuff, except those requiring Dexron 4.

Castrol book lists DexIII for everything except the later model stuff which lists as TMJ I think

other comment from my friend oversea" toyota is so reliable even u put "shit" into it...it wont break"

really feel funny about it...

i think only newer model toyota require there specific oil for there box.....but y a funcargo....it's not performance.....it just a normal car
