Price check for Battery relocation kits

Hi all, I am in the market for battery relocation kits, as I want to design my own custom cold air intake for my AE111, so I need the space.

I see someone on trademe selling a full kit for $200, thats including everything I need and instructions.

Do you guys think the price is alright?

and btw, asking in advance, should I run the cables underneath the carpet?

does that include a battery?

i guess not having to pay retail for stuff helps

when i did one a while back the box was $20 and spent 80-100 on cabling

but thats trade prices so maybe 200 not so bad?

If its that kit then yeah, looks like a good deal considering it has the box and kill switch and all the little doo daas like ground strap and cable ties.

I think I spent about $130 on mine give or take $20 and its not a very flash example of how to relocate a battery.

i bought a large box off trademe for 10 then 5 ms of welding earth strap which was lik 5buk a meter found terminals and crimps at work

Was 300hp on 10psi with stock twins, hopefully on similar boost be around 400hp

you really should have some sort of protection on the cable, a kill switch is just a manual switch, you need a circuit breaker or fuse if you wanna do it safely.

and i hope he sells it with more mounting hardware than that strap, you really need to bolt the battery down to something solid.

whats wrong with the factory fuse?




yeh u have to have the battery clamped down in some sort of way, dont actually need a battery box though

the fuse is to protect the wire if it arcs out on the body of the vehicle, so you want it as close to the battery as possible.

and if you have an unsealed battery you have to have it in a box, it doesnt matter how it is held down.

Yeah, definitely want a circuit breaker in or on the battery box!

I've just been sussing this out for mine, have got a kill switch, and am using part of a standard SW20 fusebox which has everything going through a 120amp fuse, and then seperate fuses (40amp etc) running to each other wire running back up the front.

Cant think of anything worse than having a car burn out on account of a wire that rubbed through and grounded out on the chassis. :o

No, because that means either it's one of my cars and one of someone elses, or one of my cars that I care about, and the other one that I kinda want to set on fire anyway.

anyone mind drawing me a circuit diagram? and where can I get a circuit breaker. I can do most stuff myself If I have good instructions, but if its too difficult, I may get a pro to do it for me.

I can get you everything via work if your intrested but.. HCB (or HBC) for battery box and Olex for the cable, allmost any electrical shop can help you out auto sparkies, Coreys, Ja russell or Ideal electrical.

Jaycar sell large wafer-type fuses that I think go up to about 200Amps? And the fuse holder accepts up to 1 gauge cable. Downside is that it costs like $50ish IIRC, and fuses are around $12 each.

I have one of Jayar's 150Amp circuit breakers on my car, the terminal lugs are kinda small but otherwise they seem ok. I had one on my Celica and it f*cked out when I was having starter motor issues, but otherwise I've used them for years with no problems.

dont take this as gospel, coz i read it on a forum... but i was reading about people having circuit breakers weld themselves together if the wire heated up leaving the breaker in the closed position and still conducting electricity.

anyone have any info or opinions on this?

I've seen it happen, and is one of the reasons I don't use them. But I know of a lot more people who have had little to no problem at all with them.

o ok in my mates old sil80 he must of had a sealed batt cause nothing was ever said about it at meremere or pukekohe

I used an ANL fuse for mine in the GTZ.

So luck the bimmer has the batt in the boot factory. Makes life so easy
