1ggte out 1J in ???

Postby mjrstar » Thu Mar 05, 2009 8:00 pm

i'm considering this as a bit of an option as it may be cheaper/easier than rebuilding the 1g.
i have found the following specs...

1G-GTE 1986.2-1992 175-186 kg 800x615x675

1JZ-GTE 1993 217 kg 845x675x665

1JZ-GE 1993 190 kg 815x670x660

So it looks like running an n/a 1J at lowish boost might be the go. they appear to be 30mm shorter can anyone confirm if the dimensions are accurate and any issues people have run in to. I'd probably run a trademe cheap old exhaust manifold and my current turbo, and keep as much of the old setup as i could, still run the link etc..
i should be able to make similar power at less boost and pick up a bit of extra torque. the other problem would be sourcing a J/W bellhousing.. but this shouldn't bee too hard...

suggestions welcomed.

Pretty sure Niteparts/A1 turbos make JZ to W bellhousings - here. Solves that issue

The flanges on the GE and GTE heads are different, so a tradme manifold won't work unless you hack it up.

Is the 845 dimension on the GTE supposed to be the height? I can measure the height of mine tomorrow if you like.

Also, IMO a lot of the extra weight on the GTE is going to be the twin turbo setup, which has a lot of cast iron bits in it, if you went to single turbo you'd probably shed a few kilos.

Personally I would choose the GTE, you can almost make 245wkw on the stock turbos with factory ecu just by doing intercooler and exhaust, putting a proper single turbo on with a standalone ECU will net nothing but gains on that figure.

I was fairly certain brendan was doing those bellhousings...

Interesting fact with the heads being different, sounds like a turbo engine or at least head would be the go...

the site with the dimensions were not in english but i imagine the figures being the complete engine L X W X H will all accessories fitted.

if someone has done the conversion and has a pic of the engines side by side that could be a help too...

i'm overseas at the moment so i can't measure up my engine yet either..

thanks for the input so far.
