i'm considering this as a bit of an option as it may be cheaper/easier than rebuilding the 1g.
i have found the following specs...
1G-GTE 1986.2-1992 175-186 kg 800x615x675
1JZ-GTE 1993 217 kg 845x675x665
1JZ-GE 1993 190 kg 815x670x660
So it looks like running an n/a 1J at lowish boost might be the go. they appear to be 30mm shorter can anyone confirm if the dimensions are accurate and any issues people have run in to. I'd probably run a trademe cheap old exhaust manifold and my current turbo, and keep as much of the old setup as i could, still run the link etc..
i should be able to make similar power at less boost and pick up a bit of extra torque. the other problem would be sourcing a J/W bellhousing.. but this shouldn't bee too hard...
