3SGTE into corona with 3SFE

Postby slowcorona » Wed Mar 04, 2009 9:53 pm

hi, new to the toyotas but got a 4wd corona for a good price and am looking at using it for a bit of racing but is a wee bit underpowered at the moment. has anyone put a 3SGTE engine into a corona and might be able to tell me what is involved. any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

will drop right in and the loom will plug up all u will have todo is wiren in the w2a pump if u run that. its the same as droping one into a curren. i think all u need todo is change a couple of pins in the engine back to fuse box plug witch is easy as the wires are the same colour but into different holes.

I'm pretty sure someone has done one of these in the project section.

Not into older corollas/coronas, was the AE104 a corona?

ae104 is a corolla. will be a damn sight easier to get the 3sgte in a corona as all the mounts are already there for a 3s and wiring will probably be very similar. Were you wanting to keep it 4wd?

yeah it'll be a very easy install into anything that originally had a 3S or 4S

Bro, we'll get the running gear and drop it into your Corona. We won't swap out the engine for a 3SGTE though, with all the tuning we've done on your engine, it'd be a downgrade!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

I think thats the chassis code, same as the older 4wd caldina. A friend of mine has done done that conversion in a CZ 4wd caldina, full gtt engine and gearbox swap. Really tidy install. Vid here.
Ill ask him if theres anything to look out for but would imagine a 4wd corona would be the same

#T19# = Corona/Caldina/Carina Family of vehicles
5 on the end denotes 4WD
A or S denotes engine Family Series 7A, 3E, 3S or 5S

Ok this is what he said

There were a couple of things but not majors. The fuel links onto the fuel rail are different, but if his GTE engine came with the bits of fuel lines he should be able to mix and match the two without having to buy anything. The plumbing for the heater unit that goes through the firewall is different, (on the GTE it exits out the back where the thermo is), I found that a rav 4 pipe works good if one end is cut off - the FE pipe has too much of a kink in it.

He also said that alot of the wiring has to be changed, but he negated this by going straight to a Link G4.

Hope this helps

the piping issue should be negated if you use a 3rd gen motor which is what the body is originally plumbed for. the heater hoses come off the water bypass type pipe
