my 89 ae92 has factory lsd box, always used to leave two black lines . when on 15" wheels and the front tyres would be worn out in 6months

Unless you owned it for the last 20+ years there is no way for you to know its factory. Could have been aftermarket or swapped with one from an MR2 or E58 maybe?

I'm sure the late model ae92s had the option of LSD from factory and some fitted with them.

Any how just because when you wheel spin going straight and does 2 wheels does not always mean LSD.

Try turning and wheel spinning and see if both wheels lite up.

Even better jack the car up, leave it in neutral turn one wheel and see what the other wheel does. If the other wheel turns the same way then its most likely LSD, if it turns the opposite its open an open diff.
Do not put it in gear to do this test as most people do and think they have a lsd, of course both wheels will turn the same way! or how else would the car drive fowards.

mines a 88 and it left 2 black lines on the ground only issue i have with it is the clutch is sticking when fully depressed it will stay there then pop back out any ideas?

all 3 of my ae92 levins I owned left 2 black marks when launching going straight. But they did not have LSD, as soon as you turned the steering or 1 wheel isnt getting the same amount of traction than the other then 1 wheel will spin.

Bleed your clutch.

its possible it was a dealer fit option like on the AW11s infact theres no reason you cant order anything with a TRD lsd avaialble to have one fitted before you pick it up
but it wasnt a factory option

I'm referring to ae92 gtz's which never came with a torsen diff.

yes, however it is hard to know what is in the gearbox in question without opening it up.

But its easy to find out if you have an lsd or not. You dont need to know what kind of lsd it is.

A bit of grass and some tarmac can sort out.

i fixed the clutch problem the previous owner has put pedal covers on and some of those horrid looking fake checker plate mats and it was the screws from the covers catching on the mats but clutch fluid looked like crap anyway so changed and bled the clutch

Looking at buying one at the moment...
88 ae92, v v good condition it looks like.
It idles a little rough and a bit rich, could this be caused for a huge front mount?
Mate says the build plate (forgot to look at it) says its an E58, I thought they only came on the Ae101s?, and they say its an LSD. 3rd gear is a little crunchy, I can't imagine it being a cheap fix if its an E series gbox, would it be? It could just need a clutch bleed etc, but is there any way to tell that's deff the problem without actually doing it is there?

crunchy = $&#$% 99.9% of the time

good thing to try is shift it through gears without the car running and the clutch out

the only time the clutch will be causing that is if its not disengaging properly, in which case it would be affecting all gears

so shifting through the gears with clutch engaged, car not running the gears apart from the shagged ones will be smooth?

with regards to the exhaust system can i replace the cast headers with say 20v blacktop ones if i redrill the one hole or is the flange at the other end of the extractors different

you need the 2-1 section also.

but from what ive read its best to get the 2-1 section remade as its average anyway

yes and u need to slot teh 2 outer holes on the 20v extractors to fit the 16v head.

crunchy gearbox, is quite common. Easy fix is to replace the oil, most times it makes it alot better, maybe not 100% but good enough.

Wow this thread is gold, I don't need to post one up. Keep it coming guys and gals. :) Oh and since we're on topic here, how much is one thats done like 280kays worth (pm'ed a seller who has one and I just wanted to know what other members reckon is a fair price for it)? Is 1500 a bit of a retarded price for one with a wof and reg (unrelated to previous request)? Or do I need to stretch the purse strings a bit more? I've been looking to buy one for a bit but I dunno what to do as I'm a Honda fan but I would like to try this Toyota out and it looks like a bit of fun. Also in regards to 3rd gear crunch, is it due to the synchros? I had the same problem in one of my old Honda's and I found just changing the gbox fluid had a massive massive diff. Any help would be much appreciated guys and girls.

i sold an ae92 gtz with low 200 kms on it for 1200 a while back. that was a bit of a 'cash for quick sale' situation and the rest of the car was not the greatest either.

kms really arent the best indication of what a car is worth, a car thats been thrashed to 150 and poorly maintained is going to be in worse condition than one thats been looked after to 250.
