Anyone know what this is? its pressed by the clutch pedal and the wires go to (what they think is) the old ECU harness and the other wire looks to go to the gauge cluster.....

Clutch switch, let's ecu know when you've got your foot on the clutch

Or

Starter doesn't work unless your foot is on clutch to stop you from starting in gear with clutch engaged.

sweeet...I have finally found out what it is!!

Just incase anyone else finds one in their ae85:

Whats the car? Guessing you have an AE85, the switch is not on other models. (Assuming it's a AE85/86).

The switch is used to tell the motor to run leaner when no power is needed. So the motor should idle leaner, which produces less emisions.

You no longer need it, but it acts as a pedal height adjuster as you know.

Sounds like bollocks to me.
Who idles long enough with the clutch in to warrant having something like this??? If Toyota went to that much trouble to make a car run leaner when no power is req'd, wouldn't they based it on vacuum so its actually working long enough to have an effect on emissions?

that's a ridiculous comment about running leaner. The ecu uses TPS (and MAP) to calculate load, and at no load (closed throttle) it already runs as lean as is necessary for a car that is idling, noone who is intelligent enough to develop an EFI system for a major automotive manufacturer would ever be stupid enough to employ a clutch switch for load sensing. Laughable!

That comment was about a 3A. Those things have all sorts of emissions crap on them so it wouldn't surprise me.

ae85 also has this computer, and yeah i would side on the emissions control thing, as the car starts weather clutch is in or out,
and when doing a conversion to 4age, ripping out the emissions crap makes that button dead/no power.

also your car is a ae85 not ae86 unless you have put a ae85 pedal box in there, as i can see the conversion from cable clutch to hydro.

I didnt say 86, that was the flatty posting for me. Mines 85 as said above.

I guess its safe to assume (what ever it is) that I can rip it and its wires out without worrying about it lol

Is your car NZ new by any chance?

Non Jap models always seem to get a few more things to 'idiot proof' their cars.

oh i didnt see it was posted by two people.
and ae86 manual (page cl3) just says clutch pedal adjuster so you may still need it.
though its a bad cartoon picture and cant see clearly if its the same thing.
