probably slider seized up.
You could probably clean it up and will be fine, otherwise it will cause uneven wear on the pads.

Both rears are the same. And the left rear one has movement in it when no brakes are on and when the hand brake is on, but is solid when the brake pedal is pushed down. The right rear dosen't have any movement. Any idea's as to why this might be?


Yes, they have one bolt and one slider, yours is normal.

Handbrake is in the drum in the centre of the hub, and doesn't use the calliper which means the calliper may still move slightly even if the handbrake is on.

Sweet. So how does one clean up the slider?
Reason I came accross this is that the brakes are squeaking on the left hand side.[/quote]

When you take the bolt out, lift the caliper up, then slide it off the slider. I'm no expert on these, but I had to do my rear pads a couple of months ago. You can also remove the caliper bracket (slider pin is a part of this) (two fairly easy access bolts behind the hub).

I cleaned stuff up with some brakekleen (spray on drip off) and some turps on a rag. Waited for it to dry then put new grease on the slider and reassembled.

For what it's worth, on the left side the pads were 25% worn, while on the right they were 75% worn... maybe it's a common thing?

same thing on my caldina just cleaned it all up is all good now
