i can solder, but the iron i have at home is rubbish, so guess i could either buy a better soldering iron or take it to a sparky. anyone recommend someone in central auckland? or wider auckland for that matter

cheap-ish and good (if that exists)

Over the past week my speedo and rev-counter keep frequently dying (it hasnt played up for at least 9 months).

I took the instrument cluster out - I noticed the terminals look worn where the loom plugs in. What is likely to be the cause of the problem? Do I need to take it apart further to investigate?

Any ideas?

Oh crap oh crap oh crap....

Gave it a quick clean up, put it back into the dash and now the speedo, rev counter & odometer don't work at all.... (the problem I've been having intermittently).

Everything looks fine - I opend it up and couldnt see any dry joints.

Unfortunately my multi-meter isnt working so I cant double check...

Think I found the problem (I was wondering what the rattling sound was..)

So I guess I need to sand it back and somehow solder it back on?

FYI: If anyone else has this problem - this board (& chip) is found behind the LCD Odometer in the little white box.

Do not sand it back... just incase you sand too far..

I would take it to somone who is good with a soldering iron, get it done right so it doesnt happen again..

The issue I was having was speedo die, and tacho went on the piss, going all over the show. I never got fixed, the problem has gone away, but its still on my to do list. Mines an st215G (3sge non turbo) also my O/D light is no longer working, and think the overdrive itself is up the duff too

mine did all sorts of things on the way out, are you sure the tacho is giving correct readings? My fault initially was very intermittent and the dials would sometimes just freeze in position for a second then would go back to normal or on the piss. Engine check light generally comes on when it is "offline" for a few seconds of driving.
I think in the Auto's it can lead the trans up the garden path creating all sorts of strange gear changes or no change at all being left in first while trying to drive on the motorway etc

Gear change issue didnt happen to me but did once when mrs was driving, I had forgotten that.

Only had random readings once or twice, rest of the time the cluster just dies bar the engine check light.

Its def on the to do list, but king of put it on the back burner seeing it hasnt done it in a while

if you want a good sparky in central-ish, ron wood auto electrical in pt chev is where we take most of our electrical stuff.

wont say they are super cheap, but fair prices and honest folk (family business)

cant ask for much more than that i think.
