AE92 1990 Corolla FX GTV Info Required

Hey all,

I'm trying to find out some info on the GTV Corolla model. I've been told they're a lightweight version of the GT range?

I'd like to know as much as possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tried google, and can't seem to find specific info regarding the differences between the GT and GTV model. Also found conflicting info.

Thought I'd post here in the hope an enthusiast has owned one and can help.

From what I've seen of the GTV's, the things that make it the "light weight" version is the lack of extras eg: No electric windows, no sunroof, no A/C, etc.

I don't know if they are actually made any differently to a normal AE92 GT body (I'd highly doubt it).

They also seem to be grossly over priced on Trademe for what they are.
There was a really nice looking one a while back, but the dude wanted something crazy like 4 or 5g for it. You can buy a BZ-G for that kind of money!!!

i thought they where the base model of the fx-gt, nothing special about them at all, could be wrong though, i brought one in 05 for 1900 so i don't know why some people are trying to get stupid amounts of money for them.

yeah people are trying to sell them as this flash light wieght model. I suppose they would be a good base for a race car, with the exclusion of the creature comforts. However, they are certainly not worth the money people are trying to sell them for.

As Matt said, if you want a light FXGT, buy an AE82.

If it is a good FXGT, it would still be a good car. I think if the price is right, buy the thing, chuck some suspension at it, and have a nice wee trash car.

That site seems accurate for my MR2 but I am not sure if the power figures are correct for the 4AGE engines. Heard a lot about the factory numbers being a bit generous.

Is this the same as the Euro spec AE92 hatches?

I have a customer that has one - built in Great Britain. Has 4AGE 20V etc. Has an odd model code AE92R-AGMVFW.

Sounds similar to the late model ae92's built/available in South Africa

My Aussie Corolla SX (gti) is an AE93 apparently.

From what I found out when I owned my one (ahh those were the days) they came out a bit lighter, like the guys have stated above due to the lack of creature comforts. Also they have a lightened fly wheel and for some random reason the dizzy sits in a different place than standard smallport 4age fxgts. I found this out when I got a new set of leads, and the ignitor lead didn't reach - see pic 2 and notice the fat blue lead I had to buy to reach.

Other than that there arn't any real differences. There is a GTV ae92 Levin as well. Lots of people told me that they were used by the japs to race, rather than using the fxgt. I weighed mine at the dump and it was 1050 without me in it.

Probably, I had the same issue with my AW11. Also unless you had the car from new, you cant say they came with a lightened flywheel

paid 3200 back in 2003 ,
put front kit on , 17's and trd shocks and rsr springs in it . handled best of any cars i owned . revved to rev limiter easy as , i had been told they may have a lsd gearbox but that wasnt true
it sat lower in the back with the subbox in . great height just not in this pic
