Sun visor clashes with roll cage.

Postby Rick » Fri May 22, 2009 7:03 pm

I have got a problem where the factory sun visor mounting position clashes with the roll bar, how have people got around this without mounting the visor below the bar as this blocks my vision?

Make holes in visor, attach in suitable location (permanently located) with cable ties.

in both my cars wth cages the visors fit but must but only permenantly down, when dad had his fiat, we just painted a black strip across the top of the screen to the height the sunvisors came down to, passed wof's no issues at all.

I've heard of compeditors temporarily mounting the visors for WOF then removing them again.

I have phoned several reputable WOF testing stations and they all said they wouldn't pass a car that only has a painted strip or sticker banner across the top of windscreen.

So I will have to make up something to hang the visor off, somehow..

Testing stations or warrant issueing garages?
I'd just about bet most testing stations wouldn't pass a motorsport car simply because they wouldn't understand all the ins and outs of certification and Motorsport Authority Card.

I go to Upper Hutt VTNZ for my WOFs on all my cars... funnily enough I have the least problem with the race car... probably cos it's gets the most maintenance
Just make something that does what a sun visor is intended to do, and it will pass.

Check out the visors on an MX5. They're sort of three sections and fold up into one piece about 40mm wide. You might find room to mount them in front of the top rollbar.
See ya

I have funky pull down blinds in my lounge - but that might be different because the lounge only moves when the tanker goes past with a full load 8O .
On a different note i just cable tie mine to the roll cage, have a hook cable ties to a different point on the roll cage that the visors can hang on when not in use and remove the whole lot when it's not wof time.
Seems to work ok with the vtnz guys - altho they always ask where the cert plate is for the cage then wonder why i'm handing them my authority card. 1st time through i had a god argument with them about authoity cards and cert plates, was quite funny for the 1st 10 minutes or so
