JZX100 1JZ Manual Conversion Questions

Postby xnickx » Mon May 25, 2009 9:15 pm

Tried the search but nothing came up quite relevant?!

OK so the car is a JZX100 Chaser with a 1JZGTE, currently running the 4AT trans, and wanting to convert to manual the easiest way (also cheapest I guess) by using a W5# box and have the following questions:

1) If I was to use a W5# box, would I need a custom A1 Turbos bellhousing to mate it to the 1J?
I know that the W58 came in the JZA80 2JZGE, seeing they would mate up to a 2JZ would that mean it will mate to a 1JZ aswell?

2) When using a W5#, are there many mods to the gearbox cross member needed? Or possibly use the auto cross member and just mod that?

3) Would other car's pedal box and pedals match up to the JZX100?

4) What do you guys do with the inhibitor switch? With the RBs we just shorted a circuit and that worked, what do we do in a 1JZ?

5) What else should be considered with the conversion (apart from the usual cylinders, lines, driveshaft etc etc)

Thanks in advance for the response(s)

Arent the Auto ECU's intergrated into the engine ECU or are they independent? I know there are Apexi Power FC's for the Manuals only - well so i have been told..

1) A 2JZ bell housing will be all gravy. its just the hassle of fining one but since you work at toyota you should be able to find something new for cheap cheap :)

2) There should be something out there with the right config for the crossmember.

3) Not sure? :o Maybe the JZX90 ones are close?

4) The switch can be simply be bypassed when you do the wiring.

5) The driveshaft matching will be hard i think. maybe able to get away with shortening the front half?

Ekk pass not sure? Anyone able to shed some light here?

Ahhh so just any 2JZ to W58 will do? Not sure if a genuine new one will be that much cheaper these days considering the exchange rate is silly at about 50-55Yen per NZD!

So just join the inhibitor switch back into itself so it think its in D the whole time? Makes sense..

Yeah will probably just get it shortened at this stage, saw a link somewhere here a few days ago can probably still dig it up :)

Cheers

Nope cause it will never start.
It needs to be in Neutral or Park

yes the auto ecu's are in intergrated in with the engine ecu
its all one
manual ecu's for jzx100's are cheap as chips ex yahoo jp but you will still end up paying around 200nzd for one

you can use ee101 ( i think from memory ) pedal box's but you have to drill one extra hole in it

with a w5* box there shorter than a r154 box and you may ( unsure ) have to cut a nother linkage hole further up the tunnel

save up and just by a extrenal linkage r154 box bolt in fit no cutting shit

trent at totally toyota normal has auto to manual conversion kits for sale with everything for around $2500 to 3g incl flywheel and clutch etc

less hassle

from memory as well the auto drive shafts are the same as manual

As for the pfc, the chaser is one of the only automatic cars apexi does a pfc for. it has a special menu where you can modify shift patterns etc

manual conversion

Postby docTRD » Wed May 27, 2009 12:16 am

hey there ive done a manual conversion on a 90 series chaser a few years ago, should be very similar if not identical as a 100 to convert. this is what i used :
1) gx81 clutch pedal and master cyl, and slave cyl and hydraulic line. The gx81 pedal just needed a hole to be drilled in the pedal for the bolt to the master cyl go through and slip pin, easy.
2) w58 remote shift gearbox. You will have to press the tunnel up a bit as the gearbox hits the tunnel, did on the 90 ,not sure about 100.
3) auto x-member reused.
4) get the niteparts flywheel and bell or genuine toyota 2jzge ones.
5) heavy duty clutch kit
6) for the neutral start switch, i took out the whole selector armature from the auto box, made sure it was in neutral then cable tied it in that position. Tucked the unit onto the manual box. ecu thinks its in neutral and starts, no cutting wires needed.

easy conversion overall. see how u go

Thanks for all the responses.

Found that the W58 came out of the JZA80 2JZGE which will bolt straight onto the 1JZGTE.

Anyone know if the W58 in the JZA80 Supra was remote/rear/normal shifter?

Cheers again
