engine warning light AE101 4age 20v

Postby headshotnz » Tue Jun 16, 2009 6:23 pm

Hey guys,

Im absolutly stumped, my engine warning light is on,

My car is stuck in limp home mode,

Iv replaced the TPS, the water temp sensor and the AFM as had spares.

I have put it in diag mode but the engine warning light hasn't blinked at all.

From what i read it should blink twice to report no error's. But it doesn't do this either.

Is it a faulty ECU?

When the car is really cold, then engine warning light will be on, it will be quite hard to start (As if its a carbd)

Then after about 5 seconds of splutteryniss it will be fine, until operating temperature then be back in limp home mode with the engine light back on.

Any help would be great!

Cheers every one.

Stuffed ECU very common in AE101, take it out, take the lid off and see if the caps are bulging/stuffed.

Yeah I agree, faulty ECU, and common problem.

I used to have some for sale but have run out.

I may be able to repair it for you if you get stuck.

Worst case I've seen on one was the whole PCB was corroded! :?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

This should give you an idea of how to recognise a popped or pregnant capacitor:

And see the 2 at the bottom? Thats how they should look.

Never noticed that before on any of the one's I've seen.

Another way is open the ECU up and smell it?
Smells like fish = Faulty.

And that's serious too.

Not all have visable signs until you remove the capacitor to check the board.

i dont know if the plugs will plug into the ecu, but if they do the ecu should work if you bridge the starter inhibitor switch (makes the car only start when in park)
