If the driver uses his RIGHT foot to disengage the clutch, does that make it an automatic?
I was waiting for you to pick up on that haha
Interesting definition, but IMHO wrong. Manual simply refers to whether or not the driver determines when to change gears (hence manual mode on an otherwise automatic gearbox. It's got nothing to do with the use of clutches and who/what disengages them, it's got to do with who/what initiates the change of gear.
Agreed but generally the two go hand in hand. Even "manual mode" is not truly manual as a computer determines optimum shift point and disengages the engine from the transmission and physically shifts the gear - all the driver does is "order" a gear change........the actual changing is still controlled automatically.
