Even if it is legal, does it really need to be that loud?

welcome to the joys of owning a modified car.

there are times when this will happen. If you don't like it, buy a nana-spec corolla

Well if im under the limit does it matter??? An its a trust exhaust system it comes with all the silencers an stuff in the middle so i dont really wana cut into an expensive exhaust system......an he didnt say anything about noise mate just that its aftermarket an it needs to be certified.....

Looks like following the damn law isnt even enough an its true that some cops are out to get any young person with a nice enough car an its not just for the law but to be a pain in the ass as well...

Whatever resonant frequency a 6 cylinder engine makes :P One of my customers has an RX2 that came up at 97db, which you can talk over without raising your voice.

You can't compare a Rotors DB reading to a JZ one, when Lloyd starts up his 1JZ to go to work in the morning, my bed along with the rest of the house shakes and that isnt all that loud

And fine, lets go HSV W427 then

But anyway, seems i misread this thread if all the talk is on legality of an aftermarket exhaust, rather than the noise.

PS a pitstop DB reading aint worth the paper its written on to the cops, nor should it be. Is it a calibrated reading? What quality of DB testing tool was used. A $97 DSE/Jaycar meter?

do what i did, get it certed and you wont have a problem again, i put a silencer in for whenever i'm on the road though, take it out when go racing, limited to 15psi ish with silencer in.

my exhaust sounded WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY louder than a skyline that was there to get certed. his failed mine passed, deeper sounds are louder, travel further.

as for the HSV exhausts etc, they have a lot more room under the car for huge mufflers that weee jappers just don't tend to have. mine doesn't anyway.

If THEY put a limit on it, then THEY should accept a result. And if THEY have a problem with it, then THEY should go check out the place to make sure their equipment is up to standard.

As far as I'm concerned, Av has done everything required of him here. So its either the Police's fault for not accepting what they've requested (being a test to prove the loudness of the exhaust) or its the outfit that provided the test for not meeting test requirements.

So what your saying is that its sweet for me to do a test on my own car using my own equipment at any distance at any rpm in any area and that should be legal?

It is regulated and pit stop is not a certified group to do that (afaik), you expect the cops to waste their time checking the test has been carried out correctly? That's not real world is it?

No, because you wouldn't be meeting the test requirements, as I mentioned in my post. And if Pitstop didn't meet them either, then they should be the ones to front up for this.
